Wedding fayre for brides that want to say “I do” the green way

By Andrea Petrou on August 24th, 2009

Green fayreIf you want to be a green goddess on your wedding day (and no we’re talking face painted like the wicked witch) then this fayre may just be the ethic key.

The Great Big Green Wedding Fayre is said to be the first of its kind in the North West. Taking place in Liverpool on the 5 and 6 September this fayre will feature a catwalk show by Oxfam.

It will also be packed with green and ethical wedding suppliers such as Little Cake Heaven, which claims to offer cupcakes made from free range eggs, Fairtrade chocolate, cocoa and coffee. It also only uses only recyclable packaging and locally sourced ingredients.

Glamour Junkie, a company that makes handmade wraps, shrugs and hair accessories, made from felting, fusing ultralight silk with merino wool and other natural fibers, will also be showing off its stuff at the show.

And it doesn’t end there. Brides, and their grooms (if you can drag them along) can also sign up to be Great Green VIP Brides & Grooms. For £6 each you will be given a goody bag plus be put into a prize draw to win a day at the UK’s First Eco-Spa or some beauty hampers from LoveLula and Green Rooms.

VIP brides can also sample beauty therapies, enjoy taster foods and drinks for their wedding, listen to musicians and have the opportunity to sit in a dining room fully dressed for a vintage wedding where you and your guests will be seated for complimentary tea and cake. Well that’s made up our minds, we’re signing up now.

Date for your Diary: Elizabeth Fillmore this weekend

By AbiSilvester on May 7th, 2009

elizabeth-fillmore-browns-show.jpgElizabeth Fillmore has got to be one of my all-time favourite designers: her decorative take on contemporary bridal style really appeals to my girly side without indulging its hunger for meringue and her attention to detail is impressive.

If you’re also a fan of the Fillmore’s work, you’ll no doubt be as excited as I am to hear that she’s launching her new collection for Browns Bride this weekend, and is inviting Brides to come along to preview the range. Tickets to the event are £25, but you’ll get to enjoy a champagne appointment with the designer herself in attendance and a luxuty goodie bag when you leave. Details are here if you’d like to put this one in your diary for the weekend! [Via Bridal Express]

Today is ‘wear your wedding dress at home’ day!

By AbiSilvester on March 31st, 2009

amber-wedding.jpgBeing an office of Twitter addicts, we love spontaneous internet phenomena around here, so we were amused to see that today seems to have become ‘wear your wedding dress at home day’. It all started when Amber, who by coincidence is writing her last post for our sister site Shoewawa today, decided to slip into her wedding dress to celebrate her second anniversary.

Amber’s initial tweet read: ‘Just put on my wedding dress and swished around for a few minutes. Still fits. Had to remove before Asda arrive, though…’ This idea was promptly seized upon by former brides wishing to re-live their happy days, and thus ‘#wearweddingdressathome’ was born. In Amber’s case, it’s easy to see why playing dressup with this wonderful Vera Wang frock would appeal – she looks absolutely stunning.

Interview: Kate Haines, the brains behind the Eco Chic Wedding & Home Show

By AbiSilvester on January 14th, 2009

eco-chic-wedding.jpgIf you’re planning a green wedding, or simply hoping to make a few decisions in planning your event that will help to make it more earth-friendly, you’re probably already looking forward to the inaugural Eco Chic Wedding & Home Show in March. And being a hippy at heart, I was delighted to speak Kate Haines, who co-founded the event along with Katie Fewings and Michelle Berhardi-Toner.

I started by asking Kate why she thought a wedding show for environmentally conscious couples would be so popular right now – particularly at a time when keeping costs down is also a priority for most people.

Read on after the jump for her answers.
