I Do… Now I Don’t – how to auction your unwanted engagement ring

By admin on March 3rd, 2008

auction rings.JPGHere’s a cheerful story for you! What do you do with your unwanted engagement ring once your dearly beloved has made a quick exit? Joshua Opperman reckons he has the answer with auction website ‘I Do… Now I Don’t’ which he started as a way to recoup his investment of an expensive engagement ring which his ex left him with.

Their press officer tells us, “The site is for people who are looking to unload left-over “assets” of their relationship and a marketplace for buyers to get a great bargain, giving them the opportunity to own a better quality ring than they originally could afford. IDNID sets itself apart from eBay with its quality of service, providing authenticity for every diamond sold. The site may not be able to mend your broken heart but at least it can replenish your bank account. And for those who are coming to IDNID with a proposal in mind, we propose you use our site.”

Where did you get engaged?

By admin on February 26th, 2008

LOVEsculpture.jpg

Me and my husband did it on the banks of the Thames, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes (apparently) did it at the top of the Eiffel Tower, but where in the world is the most popular place to get engaged? According to a short piece in February’s Eve magazine, it’s in front of Robert Indiana’s LOVE sculpture at the Indianapolis Museum of Modern Art, where there were over 800 proposals in February 2007 alone!

Research says couple set engagement time limit

By admin on February 18th, 2008

Cartier%20ring.JPGA recent survey of 3000 engaged or married Brits has found that 1 in ten have set themselves a time limit on how far down the relationship they should get engaged. A massive 75% said they would end the relationship if that deadline went without a proposal. With only 38% of proposals getting the full bended knee treatment, 43% wish their proposal had been more romantic and they aren’t afraid to tell their partner so!

Engagement ring at Cartier

By admin on February 12th, 2008

Cartier%20ring.JPGThere are so many engagement rings to choose from it’s a wonder anyone can ever choose (leaving a picture out with a big marker ring round your choice is often a good hint if you want him to get it spot on).

This emerald cut solitaire should thrill someone really lucky but the stone comes in a variety of cuts if you would rather something different. Find it at Cartier.

Floral rings at Ungar

Ungar%20rings.JPG
There’s no denying that these rings are utterly unique and perfect for the woman who wants something that she won’t see another woman wearing. I love the attention to detail in both styles with the intricate stone-set working on the petals and leaves. Don’t expect to get any change from your jewellery budget though, these are sure to be pricey! Check out Ungar for more details (go to ‘collections’ then ‘new products’).

Ladies, are you going to propose in 2008?

By admin on January 3rd, 2008

LeapYear.JPG
As 2008 is a Leap Year and features the four-yearly occurence of 29th February, now’s supposedly the time for all forthright ladies to be planning to propose to their beaus.Ok, we all know it’s a bit of rubbish but at least it’s a sweet tradition. It all dates back to 1288 when Scottish law officially sanctioned women proposing and if rejected they were able to claim anything from a kiss to £1 or a silk gown – just add inflation into that and think of the riches!

“While February 29th is traditionally the day when women can propose on a Leap Year, Valentine’s Day is also the time when the fellas get down on one knee – but we reckon the shoe will be on the other foot this year, as girls exercise their traditional Leap Year right to propose,” says Debenhams Wedding Insurance spokeswoman Diane Jackson. Debenham’s data already shows that vastly more women than men organise a wedding (61.8% in 2006, compared to 38.2% men and 62.9% women in 2007 with 37.1% men). So, could it be that women will now have to organise the engagement this year too? And will you be one of them?

Ultra romantic proposals… well, not quite

By admin on July 2nd, 2007

TonyCherie.JPGAs far as ultra romantic proposals go, I don’t think outgoing Prime Minister Tony Blair is leading the pack. Still, he did get his Cherie [amour] so he must have done something right. How did he propose? According to BBC News he waited until Cherie was on her knees scrubbing the loo whilst they were on holiday.

Cherie is quoted as saying, “I’d cleaned the toilet and he suddenly announced, while I was on my knees, that maybe we should get married… It was terribly romantic!”

Can you top that? I was proposed to over breakfast (not today!) as I munched on some toast. I nearly choked!
