Couture wedding dress cookies by Bea Coup

By admin on December 6th, 2007

dresswithtux_200.jpgDoes your wedding dress look good enough to eat? These ones certainly do: they’re by Bea Coup, and each one is hand-piped, meaning that if you want to change the colour of the dress, or make it look more like your own gown, you only have to ask and they’ll do their best to accommodate you. Black tuxedo cookies are also available, and these would be the perfect treat for your bridal shower or hen night, if you’re having one, or just to give to your guests on the day itself. They come in both “large” and “small” sizes, and I definitely know which size I’d choose…

By admin on November 30th, 2007

lovethatwine.JPGWhen you’re not a wine buff, picking out the right wine can be a challenge. And whilst you could sample every bottle you see you a) won’t be able to stand up after an hour or to b) are going to have a hefty bill.

Written by both experts and enthusiasts, it’s a free guide that’ll help you choose what to serve and when, making it ideal if you’re planning your hen night, engagement party or wedding reception and need to whittle down your wine list. Italian Wedding Soup

By admin on November 29th, 2007

weddingsoup.jpgI just stumbled upon a recipe for Italian Wedding Soup and thought Bridalwave readers might be interested. While it’s a traditional soup, it hasn’t actually got anything to do with weddings (it’s a mistranslation of the fact that the ingredients go well, or are “married”, together), it still could be a cute dish to serve at your own wedding (Italian or otherwise).

You can find the recipe – and more about the history – here.

Buon appetito!

Biscuiteers wedding favour biscuits

By admin on November 22nd, 2007

biscuits.jpgMmm, biscuits! Great as favours, snacks, or even as an alternative to wedding cake (heresy! – Camilla), Biscuiteers’ hand made biscuits are chocolatey and delicious, and come in a wide range of different designs. If you don’t find something you like, though, they also offer a bespoke service which allows you to have your biscuits either personalised with your initials or even created from scratch as a completely new design. There’s also a Wedding Bells Tin containing 16 biscuits, which would make a great gift.

Christmas themed edible centrepieces from Fruit Like Flowers

By admin on November 20th, 2007

fruit-flowers.jpgWe’ve talked about Fruit Like Flowers and their wonderful fruit bouquets before, but they’ve just added some Christmas-themed pieces to their product line, and if you’re getting married around Christmastime, they could make a nice addition to your reception tables.

This edible Christmas tree is made of strawberries, melons and grapes, topped with a pineapple start. It’s £55, but as you get to eat it as well as look at it, that could be money well spent.

Hand painted chocolate hearts at Theobroma

By admin on November 5th, 2007

theobroma.JPGKey members of the bridal party always deserve a special gift and what can be better than chocolates especially when they are as elegant as these? The white chocolate hearts are flavoured with passion fruit and handpainted, no less. They’re a bit pricey, so you may want to reserve them for your very favourite people like your mum (or keep in your room for when the day is finally over) but worth it at £40 for a 500g box. Or check out the lavender option as a delicious alternative.

Steady Sticks – never spill a drop of champagne again!

By admin on November 5th, 2007

H07_144823_W.jpg If any part of your wedding is happening outdoors, I’d say these clever little Steady Sticks, which I found over at Weddings by Socialites are an absolute essential. You just know that, if it’s a good day, your guests are going to want to sit down on the grass at some point, and that can spell disaster for those delicate, long-stemmed champagne flutes, so a Steady Stick with every glass will save you a lot of spillage! The little stands stick into the ground, and will prop up your wine glasses or bottles, making sure that nothing spills. There’s also a Steady Stick table which gives your guests something to balance their nibbles on while they enjoy the sun. Get them at RedEnvelope.

Personalised coffee for your reception or favours

By admin on October 24th, 2007

wedding-coffee.jpg As a dedicated coffee addict, I can’t help but like the idea of these personalised bags of coffee, which you can buy from Beau Coup. Let’s face it, most people keep coffee in the house, even if they don’t drink it themselves, and your guests will be being offered some after-dinner coffee at your reception – you may as well pay attention to detail and make sure the name on that coffee is yours!

Beau Coup offer a range of different designs, all of which can be personalised with your names and wedding date. They’re $1.65 each, with a minimum offer of 30.

The pork pie wedding ‘cake’

By admin on October 22nd, 2007

Wilsonspie.JPGI kid ye not, this is indeed a pork pie wedding ‘cake’. There, that’s all of the non-meat eaters amongst you completely traumatised. Vegies aside, meat eaters planning a buffet who want a real talking point amongst their savoury dishes might quite like to try this British pie. You can have a single layer from £24 or pull out all the stops with a tiered version that can be personalised with names, dates and a message. This one is from Wilsons Butchers in Leeds. You’d have to be pretty hard core to pass up on the real wedding cake though!

Set up a wine cellar for the happy couple

By admin on October 9th, 2007

wine.jpgKnow of a couple who are into wine (I mean really into it, rather than just into necking it)? Berry Bros & Rudd have a huge selection of fantastic and original wedding pressie ideas. You could set up a Cellar Plan with a one-off payment to buy wines to get them on their way (which they could then add to themselves) or you could even make regular payments to keep their collection growing. You could also get them tickets to a wine tasting or dinner (that could also be an idea for a sophisticated stag or hen night). You could even pay for them to attend Wine School (sounds like my kind of education). If all that wasn’t enough, they also offer a Wedding List service. Shame I’m not getting married again myself…

Wedding cakes at Carolyn Mackenzie

CarolynMackenzie.JPG

The trend for multi-tiered cakes or the alternative cupcake tower may not be abating but you’ll be hard pressed to find a cake maker who can so successfully combine the two. You can be sure these fabulous cakes by Carolyn Mackenzie will whet the appetites of more than a few couples out there though. Flavours range from traditional sponge or fruit to chocolate with espresso, vanilla or lavender or even spicy carrot.

Miniature wedding cakes at Maisie Fantaisie

By admin on October 2nd, 2007

Maisie%20mini%20cakes.JPGWords can not describe how utterly adorable these miniature cakes are. You could dispense with a wedding cake altogether and serve these instead, perhaps instead of a pudding at the wedding breakfast? or you could gift them to a few chosen members of your retinue.

At £11 for a boxed miniature cake, and £8.50 unboxed, they are quite pricey but gosh, don’t they look delicious? Find them at Maisie Fantaisie.

By admin on September 26th, 2007

Paul%20cakes.JPGPaul, the French bakery and patisserie have just opened a new shop in London’s Brompton Road and have also announced a new range of wedding cakes which, if they are as amazing looking as these cakes, should be absolutely delicious.

Enquiries can be made via the Paul website. Be warned though – you’ll leave feeling very hungry!

Godiva chocolate favours

By admin on September 24th, 2007

babycakes.jpgHow cute are these chocolate favours, shaped to look like miniature wedding cakes? They’re from Godiva and are part of a range of chocolate favours, all more delicious-looking than the last. Each piece comes in a box with a lid and a ribbon and these particular chocolates are also available in white chocolate (pictured are milk chocolate filled with dark chocolate ganache). But arguably the best chocolate in the world doesn’t come cheap – they cost $38 for four.

Crochet your own wedding cake !

By admin on September 19th, 2007

buttercream_op.jpgNow, I know wedding cake can be fattening, but this is taking the health kick just a little far! It’s a crocheted wedding cake, and if you have some spare time on your hands during the run-up to your wedding (as if!), you can make it yourself, with a little help from the free pattern you’ll find at Berocco . It definitely looks good enough to eat, and, unlike real wedding cake, which tends to disappear as soon as it’s served up, at least this one will last for a good, long time!
