Guest fashion: Five yellow dresses that are perfect for a spring wedding

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on April 4th, 2012

With Easter just around the corner, we’ve been thinking a lot about the colour yellow lately. This can be a particular difficult hue to wear, depending on your skin tone and hair colour. Rule number one: easy on the fake tan. Rule number two: make sure you find a tone of yellow that suits you.

If you’ve got a spring wedding to attend and are thinking about wearing this blossoming  shade, here are five great choices from a Grecian inspired piece to a 50′s rock n’ roll dress.

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on April 3rd, 2012

London-based designer Sophia Kokosalaki’s debut bridal collection launches today on Net-A-Porter.

For her 2012 bridal collection, Kokosalaki has drawn inspiration from ancient Greek sculptures and the shapes of traditional Haute Couture, resulting in a ethereal collection of wedding dresses. All gowns are named after Greek heroines, and offer a balanced lightness and movement for brides-to-be.

Net-A-Porter fashion director Holli Rogers told Vogue.com: “Her aesthetic totally lends itself to bridal wear and we’re excited to see the reaction to these beautiful, contemporary pieces that offer a modern alternative for today’s bride-to-be.”

Sophia has also designed signature pieces of sterling silver and gold plated jewellery with the renowned goldsmith Ilias Lalaounis to compliment the bridal collection.

Jesus Peiro Orient Express bridal collection – retro femininity and romanticism with a twist

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on March 29th, 2012

The new collection of Spanish bridal designer Jesus Peiro is an explosion of bridal beauty. It mixes flirty lace and feminine details with more edgy, clean lines.

It is all about details, and Peiro has certainly not skimped on the embellishment this season. Wonderfully twisted geometric bows are blended with delicate embroidery and jewels on original cut designs.

Showing a thorough knowledge of bespoke craftmanship, some of the silhouettes are to die for – if you can’t find a wedding dress in this collection, I doubt you will ever find it…

Check out the whole collection here. Jesus Peiro will be previewing the new collection at White Gallery London in May 2012.

Hazaar of London 2-in-1 wedding dresses

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on March 26th, 2012

Having several wedding dresses to change into on your wedding day has become somewhat of a trend (especially among the rich and famous). But what if you’ve fallen in love with a specific dress and would like nothing more than to wear it throughout the day, yet would like a different look at the reception – or simply don’t have the money to spend on two dresses?

Alice

Hazaar of London has thought of this with their bridal collection. Each design is fully versatile, created to take brides from day to evening without hindrance. The adaptable creations (yes that’s two dresses in one!) make the perfect day possible: walk down the aisle looking classically beautiful in a full-length gown and show off your dance moves in the evening in a short showstopper.

Offering timeless romance, vintage glamour and versatility, each gown is made-to-order in beautiful fabrics sourced in the UK.

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on March 23rd, 2012

We’re only three months into 2012 but already next year’s wedding dress collections are starting to appear. Brides need to have enough time to find their perfect dress after all.

We’ve just come across the photos of Justin Alexander’s 2013 bridal gown collection, and while the shoot itself looks like one of those staged Wild West ones you find in heavily trafficked tourist areas we will forgive them this time as the gowns themselves are simply gorgeous!

As always, Justin has been inspired by vintage 1950′s and 60′s fashion, and these delicate lacy creations will certainly keep all eyes on you throughout your wedding day. With a mix of Chantilly and Alencon lace, the 2013 collection offers fitted gowns as well as ballgown skirts, all with dreamy details.

Which one is your favourite?

Piers Atkinson Autumn/Winter 2012 bridal headwear

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on March 7th, 2012

We’re going gaga over the fairytale-esque autumn/winter 2012 headwear collection by milliner Piers Atkinson. Lions, bears and leopard prints aside, Atkinson offers a selected few avant-garde headpieces in bridal white.

Are you ready for a fairytale wedding?

(If rumours are true, a certain young royal might be wearing one of Piers’ pieces for the Queen’s Jubilee – yes we’re of course talking about the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate)

Raimon Bundó 2012 wedding dress collection

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on March 5th, 2012

Spanish favourite, Raimon Bundó’s 2012 bridal collection is a elegant range that puts emphasis on natural silks, mikados and dupioni as well as carefully selected materials. The collection mixes different elements and styles and recalls the golden days in which the seal of elegance and quality are unmistakeable.

There is even a gown that looks very much like the one a certain Duchess wore for her April wedding last year…

Bohemian bridal romance by Minna

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on February 24th, 2012

How gorgeous isn’t Finnish designer Minna’s bohemian wedding collection? These hand embellished wedding dresses won’t make you choke on the wedding cake when you see the price tag either. At a very affordable £200 to £500, the vintage inspired capsule collection includes gowns, veils, turbans and lots of hair adornments to complete the bridal look.

For the superstitious brides, old marital good luck customs can be added to the dresses, so if you want something old or something new to adorn the gown it can be added. You can also have your favourite love poem or perhaps the wedding date embroidered in as well for a truly unique gown.

See the complete collection on www.minna.co.uk.
