Kim Kardashian’s official wedding photos

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 26th, 2011

The official photos of Kim Kardashian have finally appeared in print! We’ve given you a preview Kim and Kris’ celebrity wedding, and here are the official wedding photographs that appear in this week’s People magazine.

Kim actually had no less than THREE wedding gowns designed by Vera Wang for her big day and her hair was inspired by Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor.

When Kim Kardashian married Kris Humphries in a lavish wedding ceremony last weekend she wore her hair in a classic chignon.

Her hair stylist Peter Savic has now revealed he wanted Kim to look like a glamorous film star of yesteryear – well it certainly went very well with the Old Hollywood wedding reception theme.

Savic said: “We wanted to make her an amazing movie star from the 40s, 50s or 60s like Sophia Loren or Ava Gardner or Elizabeth Taylor. She looked very polished. It was classic and tasteful yet exotic.”

Kim’s intricate chignon was also a one off and he had just created it that day. What, Kim had not tried the hairstyle before her actual wedding day?! And she didn’t go all Bridezilla on your ass? Impressive.

The reality TV star’s bridal look was completed by make-up artist Mario Dedivanovic who gave her a fresh-faced look for the evening wedding.

I guess Kim wanted to look like her photoshopped photos…

Kate Moss and Jamie Hince official wedding photos by Mario Testino

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 26th, 2011

Supermodel Kate Moss and Jamie Hince make a fantastic couple and look amazing in their official wedding photos, taken by photographer Mario Testino.

The pictures appear in the September issue of American Vogue and see Kate and Jamie recreate Mick and Bianca Jagger’s famous 1971 backseat wedding portrait, Kate wearing a Tom Ford velvet and fur coat while Jamie is in a red velvet jacket by the same designer.

And the picture of the newlyweds in the English forest is absolutely stunning: the colours, the setting… just everything.

Kate’s daughter Lila Grace is also a couple of the photos.

Diamonds are a bride’s best friend: Choosing the perfect engagement ring

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 25th, 2011

Choosing the perfect engagement ring is a daunting task for any man and questions like ‘Which cut does she want?’ and ‘How big should I go?’ will be questions clogging the brain from functioning properly. And we won’t even mention the potential loss of breath, nervous shakes and sweat that goes with the act of proposing.

The setting of ‘The Proposal’ can be very important but instead of overdoing it just make it romantic and meaningful. We like to think that the more important aspect of ‘The Proposal’ is the ring. Think of the ring as a promise to be treasured, a statement she will want to show off and that will be admired by many.

So how do you choose the perfect engagement ring for your perfect lady when there are so many options to choose from? This is where you should ally yourself with her best friend, her blog (if she has one) or use any means possible to find out what SHE wants. The ring is not about you, it is about her. And whatever you do don’t ask her mum, because she will probably not be able to keep it to herself.

Alternatively check out the Seventy Seven Diamonds website where they have a whole diamond education section where you can learn about shapes, carat, clarity, cut, colour and everything else that goes with picking the right diamond, such as:

Shape: Is your girlfriend elegant or eccentric, sparkly or subtle? Whether it is Emerald, Pear, Oval, Princess, Asscher, Cushion or Marquise there is one out there that suits her style and taste; it’s just about finding it.

Carat: Bigger is definitely better when it comes to diamonds! But perhaps you can’t really afford the big one yet and did you know that carat weight is not the same as size…

Clarity: The presence of any impurities or “inclusions” of a diamond can and will impact the prize. Choose wisely – some you can’t even see just by looking at it – and you could save yourself a few pounds.

Seventy Seven Diamonds lets you choose from the widest selection of natural diamonds and offer a range of beautiful, bespoke engagement rings settings. Their rings are made to order – through the website so no need for that detour to the jewellers, just remember to delete your browsing history so your girlfriend doesn’t discover what you’re actually doing online those late nights.

Since each diamond is sourced directly from the mines, polished and sent for certification before arriving to the website, they are conflict free and will offer you more choice than you ever thought possible. And because you can decide everything (style, carat, colour, clarity etc) down to each little detail you will end up with a unique piece of perfection. Let alone the fact that your knowledge of diamonds will be handy for future dinner party small-talk – thus impressing your new missus – is an added bonus.

Below is a selection of the beautiful sparklers available from Seventy Seven Diamonds:

6 decades – 6 iconic brides

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 25th, 2011

While we wait for the pictures of newlywed Kim Kardashian to appear in People magazine (trust her to sell the right!), I thought we could revisit some of the iconic brides over the past six decades.

1950s - Grace Kelly of Monaco

Picture 1 of 6

As the actress she was, Grace Kelly’s wedding was her last and greatest role. Having agreed to be filmed in order to get out of a contract with MGM studios, Grace wore a wedding dress to her 1956 wedding that has since been copied by thousands of brides –our very own Kate Middleton was also inspired by this iconic dress. Made from 22 metres of silk taffeta and 90 metres of tulle, the dress was a marvel. And to this day we wish we had a tiny waist like G.K.

Stunning photography by Regina Stabilini for 2011 wedding dress collection

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 24th, 2011

There is only so much you can do with a white dress… Or is there. It is not often wedding dress designers manage to impress me with their collection imagery, but Italian designer Regina Stabilini has managed to do just that. These preview images of her 2011 collection are fantastic, especially the blood red dresses on a white background. Talk about making the dress the centre of attention and not the model. Brava!

Stephen Yearick bridal collection

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 24th, 2011

Having come across Stephen Yearick’s site today has certainly been the highlight this week so far. His bridal gown designs are a varied bunch which means there is something for the 30’s starlet wannabe, a Princess in waiting as well as a Winter Queen bride. But most importantly they are all equally gorgeous!

Exclusive photos of Kim Kardashian’s wedding reception

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 24th, 2011

More photos below…

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphires’ wedding last weekend was as lavish as Kim wanted it to be. I’m not sure she outdid Kate Middleton’s royal wedding, but the black and white theme certainly gave the wedding ceremony and reception a bit of the old-Hollywood feel. What else would you expect from someone who certainly considers herself to be part of America’s royalty?

We have to wait until October to see the full show on Kim’s wedding, but E! has released some teaser videos ahead of the ‘hottest TV party of the year’ Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event.

Still no sign of Kim’s rumoured second… and third wedding dress though.

Anyone else planning a black and white theme for their wedding?

Gallery: Travel inspired wedding invites

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 22nd, 2011

If you and your husband-t0-be met overseas, have a shared passion for travelling or are heading abroad to tie the knot, then why not get the theme right with these cool travel inspired wedding invites.

In the day of emails and Tweets we simply love these Vintage Airmail Wedding Invites. Available from Artcadia via for £7.50.

This must be the cheapest passport ever! Send each of your wedding guest a UK passport that looks just like the real deal. Just don’t try to travel with it. Available from  The Wedding Parcel for £6.00 per invite.

‘Ticket to Paradise’ looks and feels like a boarding card, making your guests wishing the wedding was sooner when they get it. And the end of the ticket can be torn off to RSVP – how clever is that! Available from The Wedding Parcel for £3.00 per ticket.

Nothing says overseas like a traditional postcard. Fair enough these are ‘Save the Date’ cards, but there is no reason why this idea can’t be used for your wedding invites. Choose a photo of your chosen wedding ceremony destination and send to your lucky quests – they can even put them on the fridge. Available from Wedding Invitation Designer, price upon request.

Stunning wedding fashion for the bride and groom by Carlo Pignatelli

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 19th, 2011

I love Italy, the way of life, the food, the wine, the people, the fashion and now also the wedding designers. What I’ve learned this week when sifting through the Italian wedding industry to find designers to showcase, one thing that seems apparent is their love for the theatrical, that hint of drama sprinkled with romance almost to the point where it almost becomes ostentatious. If you are after a wedding dress or a suit for the groom that all this then I suggest you look at Carlo Pignatelli‘s 2011 wedding collection.  Enjoy! (Take note of the cape and corset – on the groom!!)

Principe Franz for the refined gentleman and groom

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 18th, 2011

I know the main focus on these pages is usually on brides and how beautiful they can look in dream like wedding dresses and shoes. But I haven’t forgotten (completely) about the groom, especially not when the groom’s fashion is wrapped around handsome Italian models… Men definitely look great in suits.

As part of our Italian wedding attire showcase, I just had to include Principe Franz. While a couple of the suits would give Duchamp a run for their money, the elegance and refined style is great. And if your husband-to-be is a bit of a dandy this is just his thing. What do you think ladies?

Showstopping bridesmaid dresses by Jillian Sposa

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 18th, 2011

Italians know a thing or two about fashion, so it comes as no surprise that their wedding designs are equally stylish. We stumbled across the designer Jillian, who offers bridesmaid dress collections to die for. In Jillian’s ‘Scarlett’ collection the puffiness is in the right places (skirt, not shoulders) and the colours range from electric blues, purple, yellow and orange to the more sophisticated black, ivory and pink. We love!

A dash of colour: Valentini Spose wedding dress collection

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 18th, 2011

One thing should be said about the Italian bridal gown designers we have seen so far here on Bridalwave, they’re certainly not afraid of adding a splash of colour! Valentini Spose is up next and would be great for winter brides who want to stand out from the snowy fields (are we just being hopeful?) in the English countryside. Using hues of purple and red there are some really interesting designs in this collection. Oh and we want those shoes!!
