Gallery: Get the look, Toni Pooles wedding dress

By Andrea Petrou on October 14th, 2009

Toni Poole was said to want something different for her wedding day. She therefore went for a sequined beaded gown by couture designer Steven Hakes and teamed it up with Jimmy Choos.

The dress was said to have 12,000 beads but we are more interested in the ruffled skirt, which we think is gorgeous.

Gallery: Get the look, Cheryl Cole’s wedding dress

By Andrea Petrou on October 8th, 2009

Cheryl Cole’s wedding dress was designed by Roberto Cavalli and reportedly cost a staggering £110,000. We think she looked absolutely gorgeous in this fishtail strapless frock encrusted with crystals, and love the unique touch of gold running through her train.

If you want a similar dress to Cheryl’s but don’t want to shell out the extortionate fees, check out our gallery of fishtail dresses.

Gallery: Red wedding dresses as seen on Living TV’s Four Weddings

By Andrea Petrou on September 24th, 2009

I’m on little bit of a Four Weddings roll after catching up on the show this week.

Although all the brides looked lovely and had different wedding days I have to say this red dress, worn by one of them really stands out.

I know some of the bride’s opponents didn’t like it claiming it was “too big” and, well, red but I actually fell in love with it. It’s therefore provided today’s inspiration for our gallery. Yes that’s right its red dresses.

Gallery: Get the look – Sophie Winkleman’s wedding dress

By Andrea Petrou on September 17th, 2009

Yesterday we told you about Sophie Winkleman’s gorgeous silk wedding dress that reportedly used 35 meters of silk to make and was covered in gorgeous crystals.

We promised we’d also try and find a similar dress for brides that had fallen in love with it.

Now we couldn’t find anything quite so extravagant without forcing you to rob a bank but we hope these alternatives will help you get a similar dress of your dreams.

Get the Look: Goth Wedding

By AbiSilvester on June 23rd, 2009

goth-wedding.jpgIt’s no secret that Goths love to dress up, but unless it’s covered in blood, white doesn’t usually feature too highly in the gothic wardrobe meaning most traditional wedding gowns are out.

That doesn’t stop many darkly alternative-dressing couples from holding spectacular weddings, however, and a ‘black wedding’ can be an incredible sight to behold. And with the increase in non-white wedding gowns, whether they’re a dark crimson or a deep purple a la Dita Von Teese, Gothic brides now have more choice than ever!

Follow the jump for some great Goth ‘haunts’ where you’ll find these spooky treasures and more!

Get The Look: Flower girl

By AbiSilvester on June 20th, 2009

flower-girl-wedding.jpgWe’ve been going a bit ‘dark’ this week, what with all the Goth weddings and dramatic dresses, so if you enjoy the crisp, clean tones of nature, this one’s for you.

There are plenty of floral and greenery-inspired clothes and accessories to interest you out there at the moment. I’ve plucked a few of my favourite flowery items from the season’s collections here, so if you’re looking to do some last minute high-summer accessorising you may want to check these out. I’m particularly loving the work of MGMart just now who makes beautiful organza hair decorations like the one shown top left. It’s up there with my all-time favourite Twigs & Honey for gorgeous handmade hairpieces.

Get The Look: Black and white bridesmaid chic

By AbiSilvester on June 19th, 2009

bw-bridesmaids.jpgI’d never really thought of black and white as bridesmaids’ colours until I saw the photos from the Obama wedding, where all attendants wore monochrome shades. In my bridesmaiding days I stuck to lavender blues and metallics – thankfully escaping the horrors of brown and mauve. But black and white can create the perfect contrast and work particularly well in photos if you’re looking for a smart, chic effect.

Many of the outfits here are currently on sale, so if you’re planning a winter wedding, now could be a great time to stock up on outfits. Follow the jump for details of each item pictures.

Wedspiration: more bridal glamour in Cannes

By AbiSilvester on May 21st, 2009

cannes.jpgYou’d be forgiven for thinking it was celebrity wedding season at the moment, but it is in fact the Cannes film festival that’s bringing out all the glamorous gowns – many of which are set to inspire bridal design and shape future collections, while brides-to-be can take style notes on the old-fashioned glamour on display.

Pictured left, the stunning German actress Diane Kruger is wearing a Marchesa gown that’s very much in keeping with some of the floral designs appearing on the aisle at the moment. Angelina Jolie, meanwhile, wears a draped Versace number with a wrap waist; a bridalwear favourite that looks good on all shapes (though you’d need Ange’s legs to pull off that split skirt!)

Wedspiration: More wedding gowns on the red carpet

By AbiSilvester on May 20th, 2009

hilary-swank-renee-zellweger.jpgWhen you’re a big star like Hilary Swank or Renee Zellweger, every day is your big day and you get to wear wedding dresses as often as you like. Here, we see Hilary Swank and Renee Zellweger taking full advantage of their priviledge in two silver gowns that would make for a show-stopping wedding look.

Hilary, pictured in Cannes, wears a gunmetal silver asymmetrical layered satin gown, Chopard necklace and Sergio Rossi heels. While in New York, at the Annual American Ballet Spring Gala, Renee Zellweger wears a silver jacquard strapless gown with bejewelled gathered skirt by Carolina Herrera.

Get the look: ‘white trash’ wedding à la Heidi Klum

By AbiSilvester on May 11th, 2009

white-trash-wedding.jpgLet’s face it. However much money you spend, however much time and effort you put into getting everything just right – someone will always question your taste. So why not just cut to the chase and hold the tackiest, most bad-taste wedding you can imagine?

That was what Heidi Klum and Seal did when they renewed their wedding vows in Malibu yesterday. A heavily-pregnant Heidi sported cornrows in her hair and puffed on what I’m hoping were fake cigarettes, while dressed in a rhinestone-encrusted, high-necked frock horror that Barbie would be proud to wear.

heidi-klum-and-seal.jpgSo why not take a leaf out of their book and host a trashy wedding of your own? I’ve carefully picked out a few suggestions for a tacky big day here, including the worst dress ever, a wedding cake topper (any topper is tacky but, the type that reinforce gender stereotypes are beyond tasteless) and an Elvis impersonator, cheap tiara and a nice bucket of KFC for the buffet. Oy oy!

WEDDING DRESS GALLERY: Red wedding dresses

By AbiSilvester on April 28th, 2009

Rumour has it that the LBD is being eclipsed by the LRD (little red dress) – its more daring and unconventional little sister. No surprise then that brides are also opting for shades of red in their gowns, with some really quite stunning results from the slick and stylish to the full and lavish.

So if you want your dress to do the blushing for you, your luck is in! Click on the image below to see some of our favourite red wedding dresses from this season’s collections.

Get the look: rockabilly retro

By AbiSilvester on April 23rd, 2009

rockabilly-shoes.jpgAs is my habit, I was recently browsing other people’s wedding memoirs for theme ideas, and I was so impressed by the attention to detail and style at this rockabilly wedding that I thought I’d put together a few ideas of my own on how to get this look.

GALLERY: Textured wedding dresses

By AbiSilvester on April 8th, 2009

If you find dresses made from metres upon metres of plain silk a little bit dull, you must be delighted by the abundance of fun fabrics and 3D textures being used in bridal fashion just now! I know I am — I love to see embellishment on bridalwear when it’s done tastefully and with a sense of fun, and that’s exactly the vibe coming through in most of the top designer collections.
