It was the fairlytale wedding of 2011… Hang on a minute! For Americans perhaps, but over here in Britain who can forget the real fairytale wedding of royals Prince William and Catherine, or Kate as we will forever call her. And as with Kate’s much talked about Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen wedding dress, Vera Wang’s three gowns for US reality TV star Kim Kardashian are now being replicated, despite Kim ending her marriage to Kris after just 72 days.
The 31-year-old socialite married Kris Humphries in August but have already filed for divorce due to ‘irreconcilable differences’. But what about the dresses? Would wearing a Kim-copy mean that your own marriage is doomed from the start? We’re not really superstitious here so we think a marriage – and a relationship for that matter – will last if both persons involved make a genuine effort every day to show their love and support and be willing to work at it, through dark times and good. So wearing a dress which is a copy of soon-to-be divorcee Kim Kardashian has nothing to do with how your own union turn out.
The collections are already being produced and will be on sale in the US from February. Bridal designer extraordinaire – and close friend to the bride, Vera Wang, is said to have been shocked by the news of the marriage ending so quickly. But Vera isn’t too worried about the ‘curse’ as other dresses she has designed for doomed celebrity weddings have proved very popular despite the way those marriages turned out.
British born Johanna Hehir’s latest collection The Central Park West Collection was recently show at the New York bridal week and is a stunning 1940′s inspired range.
Johanna Hehir (pronounced Hair) says her inspiration behind the collection were the Old Hollywood icons and she did a lot of research looking at old photos to find the style direction she wanted to go. The capsule collection incorporates lots of delicate lace and slim silhouettes, sticking to her signature style which is unfussy, classic cuts with romantic detailing.

There are many exceptionally beautiful bridal gowns, and the 2012 collection doesn’t disappoint. Named Candy Kisses the collection is cute as a button, especially the princess like ball gown. Vera Wang has certainly taken a step away from traditional for autumn 2012. The queen of bridal design showed her latest collection at the New York bridal fashion week on Sunday, sending models down the aisle – err catwalk – in nude and black bridal gowns.
An array of gothic looking wedding dresses made from deconstructed chiffon, tulle, organza and silk definitely offers something different for brides wanting something else than white. Whether Vera has converted to Wicca or simply has been inspired by the gothic lace and Edwardian trends of late I don’t know, but her 2012 wedding dress collection is stunning. I want some of the black ensembles to wear for next year’s parties!
But the Big Question is: would you wear black on your wedding day?
Amanda Wakeley‘s second bridal collection is also a stunner – check out her Rahjastan collection for more exotic bridal gorgeousness. Set in Morocco, the designs feature full skirted gowns, an ivory mink jacket, Grecian inspired cuts, silk mikado and pearl beaded tulle among other things. There is also a wedding dress made out of jersey and one that features gunmetal chains. I think any bride can find her dream dress here.
