Wedding guest fashion: 5 best halter neck dresses to wear to an Autumn wedding

By Elisabeth on October 24th, 2011

Autumn is definitely here: the days are getting shorter (we’re turning back the clocks next weekend!), the leaves are changing colour and you’d rather wear a wolly hat than your flip flops. But that doesn’t mean you can’t show off your arms in a gorgeous halter neck dress at your friends’ wedding! We’ve scoured the online shops to find our top five choices that are certain to get you noticed at the wedding party.

Check out the gallery below and leave us a comment on which one you like the most.

By Elisabeth on August 11th, 2011

If you’re planning a 1950′s wedding, it goes without saying that your bridesmaids need to dress the part as well. But finding the right retro looking dresses without having to pay the price of an actual vintage gown can be a lengthy process. To help you on your way we present three dresses that we think would look rockin’ at your 50`s shindig.

This dress is sweet and girlish with definite vintage 1970s vibes - perfect for outdoor weddings. Find the dress here and keep looking through the galleries for accessories ideas on how to wear this dress

How amazing have the past few months been for celebrity nuptials? We’ve had Lily Allen, Kate Moss and Zara Phillips all tying the knot, and obviously the country had quite a massive nationwide wedding party when William and Kate got married.

Summer is the season for weddings, and with Autumn only just beginning we’ve got a long way to go before it’s over. If you’re an upcoming wedding guest and in a bit of a panic about what to wear fear not, because we’ve been incredibly good to you and come up with a few ideas.

We’ve compiled three different wedding outfits that we think are perfect, whether you prefer sexier, daring styles, elegance or girly-girly looks. My personal favourite? Lipsy’s floral off-the-shoulder mini-dress, which to me screams summer garden parties and dancing on the lawn. Check out our wedding-guest fashion picks in the gallery above.

Top non-royal guest fashion at Zara Phillips’ royal wedding

By Elisabeth on August 1st, 2011

Despite being somewhat in the shadow of the bride Zara Phillips and Duchess Kate, other guest at this weekend’s royal wedding between Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall included friends from the sports and entertainment world such as fellow England rugby player Jonny Wilkinson, TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher, The Saturdays’ Una Healy and Corrie’s Katherine Kelly.

Zara Phillips wedding: What Kate and the other royals wore

By Elisabeth on August 1st, 2011

Princess Beatrice opted for a more colourful ensemble for the second royal wedding

For every wedding it’s always interesting to see what the guests show up it. This is especially the case when it comes to royal weddings as the guests usually have every designer known to choose between.

We were particularly interested to see what Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie had decided to wear as they got a lot of stick for their fashion choices at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in April. Who can forget the Philip Treacy Octopus hat that looked like it was attacking Princess Beatrice…

Duchess looked very stylish in a pale gold brocade dress coat by Jane Troughton – that she also wore to Laura Parker Bowles’ wedding in 2006 – teamed with nude shoes by L.K. Bennett and a large hat. We love how you’re recycling outfits Kate!

By Elisabeth on July 6th, 2011

Inspired by the wedding I attended this weekend just gone, where the mother of the bride wore grey, I’ve had a look online to find similar coloured outfits that could be worn by the mother of the bride and groom. Hope these bring inspiration!

Style spotlight: Royal Maid of Honour Pippa Middleton

By Elisabeth on May 5th, 2011

Kate got her Prince William last Friday the wedding of the year, but it was her sister and Maid of honour Pippa Middleton that stole the show (well online at least). The younger Middleton sister emerged from under Kate’s fashion shadow, and captivated the (male) audience in a white slinky dress by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen during the celebrations. Pippa’s presence and outfit was so popular that she’s now in the running for ‘Rear of the Year,’ she even caught Prince Harry’s eye during the festivities.

Having suddenly been launched into royal circuits and the media spotlight big time – it happens when your sister becomes a Duchess – Pippa is definitely having her cake and eating it too. But what of her past fashion sense?

Hats off to the Royal Wedding: a look at the guest fashion [photos]

By Elisabeth on May 3rd, 2011

As expected with any British wedding, especially when it is a royal one, the ladies (and gentlemen) came dressed for the occasion with hats and fascinators fighting for the attention of the crowds. Not that anyone could compete with the bride herself as she looked stunning in her Alexander McQueen dress by Sarah Burton and tiara.

London milliner and a favourite of the royal family, Philip Treacy is said to have been behind over 30 of the headpieces on display last Friday at Prince William and Princess Catherine’s wedding. While some worked better than others, it is Princess Beatrice’s Treacy-designed headgear that has received the most attention post-wedding. What do you think? Who wore it best?

Big hat prediction for royal wedding – here are some we like! [gallery]

By Elisabeth on April 27th, 2011

When it comes to a wedding nothing says British more than hats – big hats! – and fascinators. In all shapes and colours the headpieces that guests opt to wear are bound to add some elegance and style to any wedding.

For the forthcoming wedding between Kate Middleton and Prince William milliner Jess Collett predicts that many guests will wear “big hats”, and she is personally creating accessories for a number of people attending the most anticipated wedding of the year. According to Collett the strict dress code in Westminster Abbey does limit the choices for those attending the ceremony on Friday.

Collett said: “I’m making hats for quite a few of the guests. The invitation says ‘hats must be worn in church’, and forbids decorations; flowers or feathers, so most of the pieces I am making are bigger hats. People are nervous about what they can and can’t wear, and other milliners I have spoken to have said they are making mostly larger hats as well.”

Collett, who was originally hired to design a hat for the royal bride’s mother Carole Middleton, added to vogue.co.uk: “Most people have said they want subtle elegance: it’s a royal wedding and the line between elegant and garish is fine. Everyone has said they don’t want to feel like a fool. The hat has to complement the outfit, but people aren’t going matchy-matchy. It’s more about subtle tones of a colour.”

If you’re after a hat for a wedding you’re attending check out our gallery below for inspiration.

Add a dash of Old Hollywood Glamour to your wedding party with Jane & Marilyn

By Elisabeth on March 22nd, 2011

With all eyes on the bride – especially when it comes to next month’s Royal Wedding – it can be easy to think that no-one will really notice what you’re wearing if you’re the mother-of-the-bride or just a wedding guest. Oh how wrong that would be.

If you’re in a fashion crisis and don’t know what to wear, take a look at new online fashion label Jane & Marilyn. Providing grown-up glamour for real women, and modelled by real women, the first collection features 10 designs in a variety of colours: from essential black to jewel brights and flattering neutrals; that accentuate the waist, glide over the hips and embrace curves.

The brand was born out of a desire for a feminine but grown-up and sophisticated kind of glamour and draws inspiration from the elegant style of the 1950s and the partnership between Hollywood icons Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe.

All dresses are made in the UK from pure wool, silk or cotton, are available in sizes 8 – 16 and retails for between £595.00 and £845.00.
