Winter wedding guest outfit: semi-formal reception

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on November 19th, 2012

The invite appeared in your letterbox a few months ago: your friends are getting married and you’ve made the list and the dress code is ‘semi-formal’. These days many couples are opting for a semi-formal reception, perhaps holding the shindig in their favourite pub, and not going all out ballroom-style. Semi formal is the most confusing dress code we find. Guys have it easy as a suit is a suit (OK, not really… but with smart trousers and a nice shirt and tie you can’t really go wrong). Women on the other hand have to think about the length of the dress, the colour and accessories. And with winter being a rather bleak time, with rain often dangerously looming on weekends. Instead of opting for a black dress, why not add a dash of colour to cold and dark days with this persian blue dress. A perfect length and great cut, it’s easy to dress up with some accessories. We’ve chosen to stick with a metallic and snake skin effect on both the belt and clutch, and team it with nude coloured courts – a favourite hue of the Duchess of Cambridge over the past year.

Reiss ‘Debbie’ structured tuck back dress, £119.00; Kurt Geiger Carvela Amass shoes, £75.00; Mango metallic striped clutch, £69.99; Whistles snake-effect belt,  £35.00.

Guest fashion: Five yellow dresses that are perfect for a spring wedding

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on April 4th, 2012

With Easter just around the corner, we’ve been thinking a lot about the colour yellow lately. This can be a particular difficult hue to wear, depending on your skin tone and hair colour. Rule number one: easy on the fake tan. Rule number two: make sure you find a tone of yellow that suits you.

If you’ve got a spring wedding to attend and are thinking about wearing this blossoming  shade, here are five great choices from a Grecian inspired piece to a 50’s rock n’ roll dress.

Fit for a Queen: Gina Foster Millinery Diamond Jubilee fascinator and hats collection

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on February 9th, 2012

Whether you’ve bagged yourself a ticket to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations this summer or are heading to a wedding party, we’d advise you to look at Gina Foster’s latest collection if you’re after a crown of your own.

Gina Foster has already provided pieces for the Duchess of Cambridge, that’s Kate, as well as her sister, Pippa, and is fast becoming the go-to designer for young royals and socialites alike for wedding hats and fascinators.

For her 2012 collection, The Jubilee Collection, Gina has drawn inspiration from Queen Elizabeth II, reflecting on the mood of fashion of her coronation year, 1952. Named after famous diamonds, the twenty-piece collection features on-trend coulis shapes, quirky cocktail hats and glorious fascinators made from straw, feathers, flowers and silks. Hey it has to be fit for a queen.

Each of the hats are handmade and many of the designs can be made-to-order to match your colour scheme.

Prices range from £180 – £600.

We’ve scoured the online shops to find our top five choices that are certain to get you noticed at the wedding party.

Three 50’s inspired bridesmaid dresses we love!

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 11th, 2011

If you’re planning a 1950’s wedding, it goes without saying that your bridesmaids need to dress the part as well. But finding the right retro looking dresses without having to pay the price of an actual vintage gown can be a lengthy process. To help you on your way we present three dresses that we think would look rockin’ at your 50`s shindig.

Vivien of Holloway – Halterneck Pencil Dress

This London boutique is  mecca for all fifties lifestyle and fashion enthusiasts. We particularly like this polka dotted pencil dress that just oozes sensuality and a bit rockabilly. Buy here for £69.00. – Teatro Devore Print Prom Dress

Gallery: Last-minute summer wedding outfits

Outfit 1. Lipsy Pleated Off-The-Shoulder Dress

Picture 1 of 11

This dress is sweet and girlish with definite vintage 1970s vibes - perfect for outdoor weddings. Find the dress here and keep looking through the galleries for accessories ideas on how to wear this dress

How amazing have the past few months been for celebrity nuptials? We’ve had Lily Allen, Kate Moss and Zara Phillips all tying the knot, and obviously the country had quite a massive nationwide wedding party when William and Kate got married.

Summer is the season for weddings, and with Autumn only just beginning we’ve got a long way to go before it’s over. If you’re an upcoming wedding guest and in a bit of a panic about what to wear fear not, because we’ve been incredibly good to you and come up with a few ideas.

We’ve compiled three different wedding outfits that we think are perfect, whether you prefer sexier, daring styles, elegance or girly-girly looks. My personal favourite? Lipsy’s floral off-the-shoulder mini-dress, which to me screams summer garden parties and dancing on the lawn. Check out our wedding-guest fashion picks in the gallery above.

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 1st, 2011

Despite being somewhat in the shadow of the bride Zara Phillips and Duchess Kate, other guest at this weekend’s royal wedding between Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall included friends from the sports and entertainment world such as fellow England rugby player Jonny Wilkinson, TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher, The Saturdays’ Una Healy and Corrie’s Katherine Kelly.

Zara Phillips wedding: What Kate and the other royals wore

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on August 1st, 2011

Princess Beatrice in blue

Princess Beatrice opted for a more colourful ensemble for the second royal wedding

For every wedding it’s always interesting to see what the guests show up it. This is especially the case when it comes to royal weddings as the guests usually have every designer known to choose between.

We were particularly interested to see what Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie had decided to wear as they got a lot of stick for their fashion choices at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in April. Who can forget the Philip Treacy Octopus hat that looked like it was attacking Princess Beatrice…

Duchess looked very stylish in a pale gold brocade dress coat by Jane Troughton – that she also wore to Laura Parker Bowles’ wedding in 2006 – teamed with nude shoes by L.K. Bennett and a large hat. We love how you’re recycling outfits Kate!

And the mother of the bride wore grey

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on July 6th, 2011

Inspired by the wedding I attended this weekend just gone, where the mother of the bride wore grey, I’ve had a look online to find similar coloured outfits that could be worn by the mother of the bride and groom. Hope these bring inspiration!
