Iconic Brides #13 Yoko Ono
(I know, I know – it should have happened on Wednesday, but here it is, just two days late…)
White knee socks, a sun hat and a mini skirt. It’s not the most conventional of bridal outfits, but this is Yoko Ono we’re talking about, and given that she’d already appeared naked on the cover of the “Two Virgins” albums she’d made with new husband, John Lennon, we should probably just be grateful that Yoko was clothed at all.
John and Yoko married in Gibraltar on 20th March, 1969 – just two days after Paul McCartney married Linda Eastman. Dressed in her customary ’60s style, and with a pair of huge sunglasses to finish off the look, Yoko made an unusual bride, but the wedding was nothing compared to the honeymoon that followed it.


No series on Iconic Brides would be complete without Princess Diana, would it? While the cold light of 2007 can make her 1981 wedding gown look just a little bit dated, there’s no denying that it was the iconic dress of its time, and certainly a dress fit for a Princess. Made by David and Elizabeth Emmanuel, the gown was made of ivory silk and taffeta and featured 10,000 hand-sewn pearls and sequins. It also had a 25-foot-train, and drew gasps from the crowd as Diana entered Westminster Abbey.
She may never have become as well known as her famous mother-in-law,
