Viddia – wedding videos online

By admin on January 24th, 2007

ViddiaWedding videos combined with social networking? Sounds all very Web 2.0 to me. US-based Viddia have partnered up with over 100 professional photographers to encode and host high quality wedding videos. They also offer the bride and groom a password-protected site and customised email invitation so their friends can view the video as well as purchase extra DVD copies too. The videos are split into chapters so you can skip straight to ‘behind the scenes’ footage, the ceremony, reception or anything else that you fancy.

No word on the cost, so do enquire.

Wedding photography with MobileTravelogue.com

By admin on November 27th, 2006

Moblog MobileTravelogue.com (bit of a mouthful) are taking moblogging to the wedding masses. The premise is simple. Many guests will have mobile phones and be taking candid wedding shots during the big day or on the hen or stag parties (I shudder at the thought of some of those inebriated shots). The snapper sends in their pictures directly to the site which is then updated in real time from the guests different perspectives, so if you have guests who couldn’t make it, they can still see the action as it happens.

They currently need guinea pigs to try out the service for no charge and with personal page styling. Call Rupert Young on +44 7795 480 387 or sign up for a year’s free service using code WI111

If you’ve set up a moblog and want to recommend another moblog provider do let us know!

A Quick Guide to Choosing a Wedding Photographer

By admin on November 22nd, 2006

103016_50s_wedding After the wedding reception itself, our biggest expense is our wedding photographer, who’s costing the equivalent of a month’s salary for one of us. I don’t regret it for a second, though: while favours and wedding cakes will be forgotten, the photographs are the one thing we’ll have forever, and so I think the expense is justified.

Not, of course, that it’s in any way easy to just hand over such a large amount of cash: as one of the most expensive parts of our wedding, choosing a photographer was the thing I’ve spent most time on (it took me longer to choose my photographer than it did to choose my dress). Here’s a quick guide on how to do it – and if you have any other tips I’ve missed, please tell me about them!

Instant Forever Polaroid Guestbook

By admin on September 18th, 2006

Polaroid_photobookDisposable and polaroid cameras are widely used at weddings. The only thing is, once you’ve got round to developing them all you can think is ‘what were they doing?’ ‘did they really think that was a good idea’ and in the manner of Ross from Friends ‘get off my sister!’

Get the guests to dig their own hole by snapping their own polaroids and inserting them into this Japanese fabric or leather bound guestbook with plenty of space for a good luck scrawl – £45

Blurb photo books

By admin on July 10th, 2006

Blurb_photo_bookWe’ve probably all done it – taken a bazillion photos and left them languishing on our hard drives or in dusty cupboards instead of arranging them into neat albums to show off/ bore our friends rigid with. Blurb photo books say they can make your shots into bookstore quality coffee table books. The 8 x10 inch books feature dust covers of your pictures, up to 440 professionally designed pages with optional borders and captions. Prices start at $29.95 for up to 40 pages. Appears to only ship to the USA and Canada at the moment.

Sagem Photo Easy 100 WiFi printer

By admin on June 14th, 2006

Sagem110I’ve mentioned getting a photo printer before. The idea is that most of your guests will have mobile phones or digicams so they can print out their shots at your reception and leave the best ones for you to add to your photo album!

Sagem have just addded two new photo printers to it’s ever expanding range – the Photo Easy 110 and Photo Easy 110 WiFi. Now you’ve probably assumed that means only the latter has WiFi but their names are abit misleading as both in fact have WiFi. The latter just comes with an extra WiFi dongle. Both churn out 6×4 inch prints at 300x300ppi with a protective coating to make them smudge and fingerprint proof. Minor editing such as red-eye reduction and automatic enhancement can be done at the touch of a button.

Wedding gadgets – disposable camera, iPod, champichute and Nokia N70

By admin on May 11th, 2006

PinkdiscameraYou can get a gadget for anything these days – just check out our gadget blog Shiny Shiny for the very best. After the recently featured teddy bear shot gun (set to overtake confetti? Nah!) I began to wonder about what would make a good wedding gadget. I’ve rounded up four that cover the major bases – photography, phone, music and fun and none of them break the bank!

The disposable camera is an obvious one. Whether you want to save money on professional photography or just want to get together some blackmail candid shots of your nearest and dearest the disposable camera is a cheap and efficient way to do it. Pink camera £3.20 with processing. More photography here.

Remains of the day

By admin on March 21st, 2006

EpsonAs you can imagine covering photography for a readership from countries far and wide is a little more difficult than merely recommending Johnny down the road with his telescopic lens to capture close ups of your nuptials.

Of course the answer is clear. D.I.Y! In this day of digi-cam (see Shiny Shiny for the best) anyone can turn photographer. But how do you get those pics for keeps? Epson’s Picturemate 100 is a fine little gadget. It covers a surface space approximately the size of two DVD cases and couldn’t be simpler to operate. Open one slot, pop in the ready cut photo paper, it does its thing and churns out pictures the other end.
