While some bridal designers went for extreme designs to stand out from the crowd, Badgley Mischka stuck to traditional style with a modern twist.
Models swayed down the catwalk in traditional A-line shapes with silver detailing and tiny decoration, which gave a nod to the popular vintage trend. And vintage seemed to be a theme that continued through part of the collection with layered straight dresses, vintaged up with lace sleeves and that all important beading.
Florals also made an appearance in the collection, featuring as tiny rose buds on straight skirts or making up the decoration on waist-lines and giving a nod to the 50s.
However, Mischka did venture into the 21st century with some gorgeous LWD creations, which are, thankfully becoming more mainstream. Expect many more shorter dresses to crop up next year brides-to-be.

Pick of the Week (POTW)
By AbiSilvester on July 10th, 2009
Since we’re all about the designer gowns and couture chic today, I thought I’d share this extreme rarity I dug up on Ebay this morning. It’s buy Marc Jacobs, which accounts for the four-figure asking price, and although it would take a pretty special bride to want to sashay down the aisle in a frock like this, I can see it working like a charm for a certain type of laid-back, stylish lady who’s happiest with in a pair of Louboutins with a cocktail in her hand.
The frock’s previous owner said she wore it for just three hours and described it as ‘trendy, romantic and comfortable’. So if you want to go short, why not go really short and bag this once in a lifetime purchase. Ad here

I have to admit that I’m a sucker for a bit of unusual composition, and seeing this delicate little dress snapped alongside the washing line somehow made me fall in love with it even more.
The seller says very little about the size 10 gown, which she’s selling off at a starting bid of 99p, so I’ve no idea who designed it, or even its age. But in a way that makes a change from passing judgement on a dress based on its label, and it makes for a fun guessing game. The empire-cut waist and bow details suggest it’s either a current style or is perhaps 80s vintage, but beyond that I’m stumped. Anyone recognise this dress? Ad here.

For those planning on a “shotgun wedding”, many of the dresses on offer are more than a little Mumsy; a look you may not want to go for even when you’re about to become a Mum! But Big Beautiful Bridal, an Ebay seller specialising in pregnancy bridalwear has some really pretty designs that will enhance your glowing looks and allow you to wear the dress of your dreams, bump and all. This gown, which I think looks absolutely lovely costs just £168 and can be made to fit you.
There are pros and cons to this one. Do you want to have your day before you have the worry of looking after babies and toddlers, or would you prefer to leave it until you’re looking a bit less, well, huge and can enjoy a drink? I’ve heard both sides of the argument from friends who opted for doing it before or after baby, so I’d be interested to hear your views…

I spotted this pretty gown over on Ebay’s ‘used’ section and thought it would make a perfect dress for a summer bride. It’s an unusually-shaped ivory dress with cool spaghetti sleeves and a flattering sash beld around the waist. The dress is floor-length, but looks as thouugh it would be llight and very portable for destination brides.
The previous owner, (who looks like she had a storming time of it on her wedding day!) bought the dress for £600 and is selling it with a buy-it-now price of £200. It’s also on auction, currently at £89.99. See the original ad here.

This sophisticated, floor length Maggie Sottero gown would be the perfect fit for any bride looking to bring a bit of silver screen glamour to the occasion – at a bargain price.
The cream and ivory dress is a size 12, with a a dramatic fishtail skirt, the top being a corset with boning and spaghetti straps. On the bottom and hips there is ruching and more delicate sequins to accentuate your natural curves. In terms of its shape, it’s very similar to the gown worn by Cheryl Cole at her wedding, which is what attracted its previous owner! However, unlike the seller, you won’t be paying a four-figure sum for this dress as it’s still on auction on Ebay for just £199. (ad)

OK. I admit I chose this dress mainly because I liked its owners dramatic photography, but it’s also a Suzanne Neville dress on sale for £200 (at time of writing) which isn’t a bad price at all for a lovely frock from British Bridal Designer of the year 2009!
‘A line’ in shape and made out of dutchess satin, the size 10 dress is simple and elegant with detail around the bust and buttons down the back. The bodice is boned for a very flattering waistline. The previous owner has had it dry cleaned, and it’s all ready to go! See the ad here.

If you’re looking for a lovely wedding dress (as opposed to one that’s, say, sexy or avant-garde) then I may just have picked you out a good ‘un. Made from pure vintage silk by Catherine Rayner, it has a scoop neckline with beautifully romantic faux roses around the edge.
I love the overall shape created by the net underskirt, which is draped with yards of sumptuous ivory silk. The dress’s previous owner said it made her want to ‘swish and rustle all day!’ Currently on auction at £75, you can start bidding here.

It’s almost an accepted fact on this blog that nobody wants to wear a ‘meringue’ skirt on their wedding day, but the style remains a popular choice nonetheless and if done with flair and a sense of fun, there’s no reason you shouldn’t go for a dress with a puffy skirt if you want to – particularly when the dress in question could cost you next to nothing on Ebay!
This fun and frivolous, full-skirted number by Justin Alexander features a raspberry, sweetheart-shaped bodice encrusted with crystals that contrast deliciously against the ivory tulle of the chapel-trained skirt. It’s a petite UK size 6 – and am I the only one thinking it bears a spooky resemblence to Katie Price’s ‘Barbie dress’? Hmm…best not to dwell too much on that question! This one’s on auction at its start price of 99p. It was bought new at £1200. Auction here.

It’s not often that a Vera Wang frock flashes up on our Ebay radar, so when it does we get pretty excited here at bridalwave. Today’s pick, therefore, was not a tough one to choose: it’s this very chic ivory dress that’s on auction till the 17th (or at Buy It Now for £490).
Like all of Wang’s gowns, it’s a contemporary but very feminine style with minimal fuss: it’s outer fabric is 100% ivory silk with an unusual waffle texture and full skirt with lots of tulle underlay. Approximately a size 12, you can see more images of the dress here. This could be a fantastic opportunity for any bride who dreams of Vera Wang but can’t quite cover the cost.
Go here for the auction.

Today’s Ebay pick of the week is one for the destination or high summer bride, and it’s a stunning, short and kicky frock by Maggie Sottero. The previous owner jokes that the dress was an ideal choice for her as she’s ‘clumsy and would trip over a longer dress’; a concern I can certainly relate to!
As for the style, I personally approve, as I find a lot of destination dresses to be a bit plain, dull and clingy, so if you want to tie the know somewhere exotic but don’t happen to go in for that look, this one could be for you. I particularly like the fairy-style edging on the skirt.
The current bid stands at £50 and you’ve got till Sunday to snap it up. Advert here.

This highly unusual gown made from silk dupion (that’s where two colours are combined in the fabric to create beautiful shimmering light effects) is special in a number of ways, but I like the fact that its dressmaker wore it to her own wedding: ‘ have made many wedding dresses in my time’ she says in the ad, but this was actually mine!
It’s a size 14 (tall), flattering princess-line cut with an absolutely darling bow detail at the back. Check out the attention to detail on the embroidery too – you can tell that some real love went into this dress. If you like it you’ll have to hurry, as the auction ends on Monday. But there are currently no bids, with a starting price of £90.

Empire-line dresses are just so popular at the moment that I can see this Faviana Couture Grecian-style gown getting a lot of interest on Ebay.
Ideal wear for a summer wedding, the dress would work particularly well for a bride-to-be planning on tying the knot in sunnier climes. Its previous owner (who shares with us that she’s a 34C/D chest) claims she didn’t need to wear a bar with the dress, which is fortunate, considering the rather comlex ribbon tie system at the back! The dress is very lightweight, so would travel well, too. Get bidding for a chance to slip into this stylish and very fashionable gown. It’s a size 10, and bidding currently stands at £165.
