YouMinx gives grooms a present to remember

By Andrea Petrou on November 4th, 2010

Minx.jpg

It’s hard trying to find that perfect wedding gift for your groom, a watch is a little bit too boring and that football season ticket will not only set you back a fair good pounds but also ensure you become a fully fledged football widow.

Therefore we were really pleased when we heard about YouMinx.com, a service that offers brides-to-be the chance to create a one off photo album as a pre-wedding gift to their partner.

Future bridges are encouraged to be shot in their bridal attire, underwear etc, all of which is done in secret, without the groom’s knowledge.

The groom is then given an album containing 10 prints or 25 high-resolution images on CD in a presentation case with a special message imbedded into one of the images/presentation cd case.

Andrea Palmer, the site’s founder, says the album is typically given as a gift to the groom the night before the wedding when they’re unable to spend time with the bride to be.

The site uses an all female photography team and all guests are pampered pre-shoot.

We think this a perfect way to show your beau how much you care.

Pampering and pink champagne at The Lanes, Brighton

By AbiSilvester on June 9th, 2009

Hordes of hens descend on Brighton every weekend for pre-wedding fun and frolics, and perhaps you’ll soon be one of them! But when the party’s over you need somewhere to chill out and freshen up – and unless you’re very lucky with the weather, the beach just won’t cut it…

thelaneshealthandbeauty2.jpgA far better option is to pitch up at one of the town’s boutique salons and get some serious looking after; maybe with a glass of restorative pink bubbly in your hand. And having dropped in there on a flying visit last week where they did a great job on my much-neglected nails (see above!), I can to recommend The Lanes Health and Beauty as being very much up to the job.

The salon is tucked away in the North Laines, away from the bustle and madness of Brighton town centre, and it’s the perfect place to chill out, making it very popular with hen parties, either for a pre-celebration girly getting ready session or as a haven for recovery after the main event…

Afternoon tea: the civilised hen party option!

By AbiSilvester on May 26th, 2009

afternoon-tea.jpgOne of the best ‘hen nights’ I ever went to involved the great English tradition of Afternoon Tea. We arrived at one of London’s finest hotels (I honestly forget which, but most of them have got this nailed, I’m told!) where we were served round upon round of cucumber sandwiches, scones, sponge cake slices and cups of earl grey tea. It was all very civilised. At least, it was until they brought out the champagne…

So if that sounds like your idea of fun but you don’t want to blow the budget, why not think about creating your own tea time experience with friends?

The Jealous Bride – murder mystery game

By admin on December 23rd, 2008

JealousBride.jpg
There’s nothing like a murder to spice up your average hen night party. The Jealous Bride themed night involves you and your guests solving a mystery over dinner. Characters are based on real people – and dressing up is a must – plus two actors are provided to keep the action going. The Murder Mystery Company send out invitations with your character and tips, can organise a hotel meal or a stay if you want to play over a weekend and it all sounds rather fun. Check details of this game and others out here.

Parties for crafty hens at the MAKE lounge

By AbiSilvester on November 6th, 2008

make lounge.jpgIf you’re more of a fascinators and crochet hooks kind of bride-to-be than a bunny ears and wands type, then a fun and relaxing girls’ night in at the MAKE lounge could be just the way to celebrate your forthcoming event.

The Islington-based lounge, which has become an increasingly popular hen party option, is set in a stylish, contemporary house that’s equipped with everything you need to create fabulous handmade objects of desire, while you tuck into cupcakes and a drop of wine with friends.

plainjanemain-376.jpgI know this ceramic memo board and place card tiles are plain, but as soon as I saw them, I imagined they could be just what someone has been looking for! They come in a set of one board and six reusable place card tiles, all of which come with their own wipe-off markers and would be ideal for wedding rehearsal dinner table settings.

Try something new on your stag do with Stagweb

By admin on October 16th, 2008

stagweb.jpg
Stag and hen dos are something which can strike fear into the heart of many, not least the couple themselves. If you’re searching for something alternative for a stag party, whatever your reasons, there might just be something perfect from Stagweb.

Though the company offer traditional, if tacky, ideas involving naked ladies, there’s plenty of choice from distillery tours, tenpin bowling with all the trimmings, comedy nights or even a day at the races. All the organisation and bookings are taken care of by the company, so all you need to do is turn up in your best threads and have fun. Find out more from the website.

Hen night invite

By admin on October 10th, 2008

15686.jpgThe text on this card reads: “Someone’s about to close the windows and turn out the lights on her single life. About to enter the realm of wifehood. So join us for her final single outing as we all behave questionably, repeatedly hearing the phrase, ‘stop now and save your dignity’ while snapping photos destined for www.girlsgonewild.com. You may feel entirely out of your element, but it’s better than sitting around a living room, watching her open stupid theme gifts like proper young women.”

slattery chocolate course.jpg
If you’re struggling, like so many, to find the perfect way to celebrate before your wedding that doesn’t focus upon drinking and novelty phalluses (phalli?), then worry not! There are quite a few companies who are quickly realising that not all brides want to have a gin-fuelled crying session to mark the end of their single years, and you can find many of them on Bridalwave already.

‘Bride’ school badge

By admin on July 14th, 2008

large__09_04_2008_08_39_badges6.jpgBecause I was a big girly swot at school, I would have loved this badge when I got married. It costs £3.95 from Bloomsbury and there’s also one for ‘Groom’, ‘Best Man’ and ‘Bridesmaid’ of course. Would be particularly good fun if you had a school disco style hen night. Or something.

Clay Pigeon Shooting across the UK for stag dos to remember

By admin on July 2nd, 2008

38 CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING.jpgWhen we in the UK think of stag parties we usually see an image of lairy, booze-fuelled tomfoolery. While that’s just perfect for some, for guys looking for a bonding day that’s based in something more unusual and more clearheaded then clay pigeon shooting is worth a thought.

My boyfriend’s brother had just such a stag do and all present had a blast (pardon the accidental pun!), enjoying the company, having a great laugh and enjoying some friendly competition among friends. A round up of all clay pigeon shooting activity days is available at the Clay Target website, part of Adventure 001. Find out more about packages near you at the webpage.
