Engagements on Ice at The Rockefeller Centre

By admin on October 23rd, 2006

Ny_rockefellerSeeing as I’ve just been posting about the New York magazines Fall Wedding Guide, I thought I’d continue on the stateside theme and mention this engagement idea cooked up between the Rockefeller Centre skating rink and Brides.com. The idea is this being proposed to at the skating rink is really romantic (at least skating in movies always looks romantic) so why not charge couples $200 for a private skate with ‘their song’, victory lap, gift bag, champagne toast and a proposal that’ll be caught on camera by Brides.com and posted to their website. Of course, you’ll want to make sure that once you’ve paid for your proposal you’ll get your moneys worth i.e. a yes answer. Suddenly it doesn’t look quite so romantic.

Into the Blue – Hen and Stag Nights

By admin on September 25th, 2006

Into_the_blueHave I mentioned that the idea of the last night of ‘freedom’ and being made to gallivant about town wearing fluffy boas, ‘L’ plates and fake, um, you know whats, fills me with terror. Well, it still does but thankfully with companies like Into the Blue, it is entirely possible for hen and stag dos to be every bit as exicting, action packed or sedate as they like.

Pick from experiences like a day’s polo tuition, pampering treats from mani-pedis to massage, chocolate making, falconry and whale watching, circus, amy skills and so much more. All I’ve managed to say for the last few minutes is ‘ooh, I want to do that!’ Get the gift vouchers, which are valid for a year, and book a date to suit you.

All Fired Up Signing Plates – An Alternative to Guest Books

By admin on September 21st, 2006

Allfiredup Guest books just too traditional, a little passe perhaps and really just destined for a distant cupbaord where it’ll gather dust until you dig it out on your tenth anniversary and say ‘who were John and Jane again? Were they your friends?’

Choose from a range of ceramic plates at All Fired Up and using the pencil they provide, have all your guests leave their good luck missives. Return the plate for the artists to paint the each signature, add a design of your choice then glaze and fire it. All you have to do is hang it – from £110. Use them for hen nights too ala the plate pictured.

Revenge of the Groom

By admin on July 27th, 2006

Revenge_1I’ll bet a few of you brides and grooms are in for a crazy bout of last minute freedom before you take that trip up the aisle. Groom Matt Edgely certainly did when his groomsmen "made him" dance around a Manchester pub in a leopard print thong (leopard print, honestly! Hardly flattering). Bet they didn’t think it was such a jolly jape when he got his own back after the ceremony by offering them transport with a difference. The six ushers and two best men were presented with toy scooters complete with personalised number plates and decked in ribbons, which they had to ride to the reception to the amusement of passing motorists.

How to pick an engagement ring

By admin on July 19th, 2006

Tiffany_ring Sex and the City fans will remember the episode where Carrie finds the hideous engagement ring Aidan has hidden. You don’t want that to happen to you! So here’s a few easy steps for guys and gals to find out just what kind of engagement ring their intended would really like.

1. Rope in one of her mates. And by mates I don’t mean your mum or her jealous pal. True friends know their friends tastes and should be relied upon (unless said mate is pregnant in which case steer clear).

Chocoholic weekend – tasty hen nights

By admin on July 4th, 2006

Yum_yum_yummy_chocciesIt will no doubt come as no surprise to you that I like chocolate nearly as much as cake and sparkly things. So when I spotted the Thornton’s Chocoholics Weekend I just knew it would make a great hen night. Starting on a Friday night, you taste existing and soon-to-be launched chocolate ranges within a chocolate seminar. On Saturday the master chocolatier (now there’s a job) shows you how to make your own chocs. During the afternoon a few secrets are revealed in the choccy workshop, followed by dinner and hot – wait for it – chocolate.

Customised bridal t-shirts

By admin on June 30th, 2006

Bridal_teeI know loads of you will hate this but I’m sure someone will love it. If you fancy customising your t-shirts, perhaps for your Hen Night or for the day then try out Customized Girl. It’s a super simple site where you select everything for your $21 cotton t-shirt from colour right down to words and clip art. Mine reads ‘Bridezilla, It’s my wedding and it will be perfect. Now bow to my will!’ but you could do what you like. So long as you don’t go all Britney Spears and emblazon them with ‘Pimps’ and ‘Hookers’ or whatever dreadful tacky thing she printed on her attendants outfits.

How to throw a bridal shower

By admin on June 27th, 2006

WineBeen tasked to provide your best friend or sister with a wedding shower? It’s a pre-wedding celebration that is huge in the USA, growing in Australia and virtually non-existent in the UK, but where ever you are, here are a few tips to get you started.

1. Make sure the bride actually wants one. If it’s a no, back off unless she likes surprises (‘surprise, it didn’t happen because you said no!’) but if it is a yes, then hurrah, start planning.

Kate Spade wedding

By admin on May 31st, 2006

Katespade1Mention Kate Spade to me and my usual response is ‘ooooh handbags’ so imagine my surprise to find that the bag lady has branched out into all kinds of lovely things from wedding shoes to these beautiful invitation cards.

Strictly speaking they aren’t wedding invitations but I see no reason why you couldn’t use them to invite your favourite people to the hen/ bachelorette party, wedding shower or a cocktail party for people to meet prior to the festivities. Champagne toast invitation cards and envelopes, $20 for 10.

Experience days – for fun loving couples

By admin on May 16th, 2006

LastminuteGot enough toasters and china to last you a few decades and stuck as to what to ask for as a gift? Then why not try your hand at fun and unusual ‘experience’ days. They are great for a bit of couples bonding during the post wedding blues (when you suddenly find there is no planning left) as well as a chance to try out something new. If you have adventourous bridesmaids you could even pick on as an alternative to the standard hen/ bachelorette parties.

At Lastminute.com, I found some great activities – Indoor Skydiving (2-for-1 deal) at £49, introductory flying lessons from £89 (I’ve done it and it is brilliant), ferrari racing from £99, Zorbing (think gigiantic hamster wheel thrown down a hill with you two in it) from £35 or tandem skydiving from £259. If that all sounds just too much for you, try tea at The Ritz instead.
