Bridal store creates iPhone app for busy brides-to-be

By Andrea Petrou on November 24th, 2009

bridal.pngIt’s not often we feature technology on Bridalwave but this is one little gem we had to share with you, especially if you’re a busy bride-to-be on the go.

iBridal is claimed to be the first Bridal Shop iPhone application and lets brides-to-be access valuable information for planning their big day, including a countdown to the event, a bridal gallery, special offers and planning advice.

The app, which was devised by bridal store Anna McDonald Bridal Gallery, will also allow brides to book appointments at the store as well as independent bridal news, information on wedding fairs, and picture galleries of bridal designers creations.

If that wasn’t enough brides to be can also use the app to find useful contacts for each aspect of their wedding plans.

The app, which is free, can be downloaded here. We’re doing it right now.

Bridalwave exclusive: Deleted scene from The Proposal

By Andrea Petrou on November 23rd, 2009

We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again, wedding planning can be stressful. If you’re looking for something to take your mind away from the stresses and panics then why not gather the girls and settle down for a night of wedding film fun starting with this years comedy The Proposal.

The rom-com from Director Anne Fletcher (27 Dresses), is all about an assertive boss and her long suffering assistant who find themselves in a match made in hell as they trade boardroom bickering for a less than loved up engagement.

When high-flying publishing executive Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock – The Lakehouse) is told she faces deportation to her native Canada, she confronts the problem in her own formidable style by forcing her young assistant Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds – Adventureland) to marry her.

We’ve managed to get our hands on an exclusive video clip showing a deleted scene from the film, where Andrew passes a message to Margaret through a flight attendant but the message does not come across in the right way.

If you think it’s as funny as we do then The Proposal is released on Buena Vista Home Entertainment Blu-ray Hi-Def Combi Pack and single disc DVD on the 30th November.

H Samuel launches “proposal packs” for men who want to propose in the store

By Andrea Petrou on November 11th, 2009

man, proposing marriage.gifPicture the scene, you’ve popped into the jewellers with your other half to pick up a birthday present for a friend when one of you gets the urge to propose and gets down on one knee there and then.

We didn’t think this was a regular occurrence and proposing in the middle of a packed shop (we’d just about accept Tiffany) is hardly romantic, but H Samuel thinks otherwise.

According to the highstreet store, spontaneous acts of romance have tripled in it’s branches in the past year, often by men acting spontaneously when they see sight of trays of engagement rings.

Store staff have now been provided with a ‘proposal pack’ including a soft cushion and a bottle of bubbly to make it more comfortable and romantic for the men caught up in
the moment.

The pack also includes a pack of tissues to dry any tears from emotional women as they, hopefully, say yes. The pack will be given to any love-struck couple who get engaged in the store, as long as they buy a ring from the new Christmas Kisses range.

We’re not sure about you, but we hardly think this is the most romantic way to ask someone to marry you. Let us know what you think by leaving your comments below.

Total Personal Training creates a bespoke training package for brides-to-be.

By Andrea Petrou on October 13th, 2009

RunningBride.jpgMany brides will lose weight before their big day unintentionally through the stress of planning and all the running about.

However, if you’re getting married next year and worried about fitting into your dress, or just simply want to look and feel good on your special day, then we’ve found something that may help.

Surrey based fitness company Total Personal Training has created a bespoke training package for brides-to-be.

The Be Your Best package is designed to help those that want to lose weight or to simply tone up and feel their best on their big day.

The company has designed the package after seeing many brides-to-be feeling the pressure to lose weight or to get fit before their wedding.

However, it claims this pressure can often lead to panic dieting which can make you feel empty and lethargic just when you need to be full of joy and energy to deal with all the preparations.

Total Personal Training’s weight management trainers will take brides-to-be through a comprehensive weight loss program so they get the perfect body for their wedding day.

They will guide them through a varied, realistic and fun way to lose weight in time for their wedding, which it says includes fat-burning exercises to the hassle-free ‘at home’ workout.

The ‘Be Your Best’ packages are available in blocks of 12 or 24 personal training sessions and are individually designed to leave you feeling energized and looking great on your big day.

So if you want to lose weight, forget the fad diets and do it the proper way.

Wedding gift idea that you won’t be able to wine about

By Andrea Petrou on August 26th, 2009

Wedding wine gift listWe spoke about wedding gift ideas for the bride and groom who have it all yesterday, so I feel a little bad about telling you about this, especially as it’s not nearly as charitable.

However, sometimes it’s nice to have a little bit of a choice and brides and grooms, who appreciate the finer things in life, will love this.

The Wine Wedding List is a company that lets you try wines and build up a present list with your favourite ones for guests to buy.

Generous guests can opt for a case, or the wines are also available per bottle.

Now we know that they’ll always be a few of the older generation who will mutter about alcohol being bought as a present but there’s a way around this.

The companyalso sells wine glasses and decanters, now correct us if we’re wrong but these have long since been traditional gifts for a couple, haven’t they Aunt Mable?

Keep your honeymoon tan for longer

By Andrea Petrou on August 19th, 2009

Braun epilator.jpgIt’s horrible coming back from any holiday, let alone your honeymoon, but we have found a product that will at least keep you post wedding holiday tan from fading, well if you wax anyway.

And now for the science bit. According to Braun, waxing strips off an outer layer of the skin meaning your tan will fade quickly. However, epilators don’t do the same.

Braun’s answer to this problem is its new epilator.

The Braun Silk-épil Xpressive Wet & Dry is said to remove hair from 0.5 mm, which is only a few days of growth and can remove up to four times more short hairs than waxing in one stroke, perfect for just married couples.

However, unless one of you lovely brides to be want to try it out and let us know, I’ll have to take Braun’s word for it. Me and pain don’t go well together.
