Planning to marry in Louboutins? How to spot a fake

By AbiSilvester on July 15th, 2009

christian_louboutin_petal_sandals.jpgI’ve been dimly aware for a while now that a number of sites based in the Far East are producing fake knock-offs of designer shoes, in particular the distinctive and hugely popular Louboutin styles.

But the trend seems to be reaching fever pitch this week, with many well-meaning customers reporting disappointment with sites they thought were the real deal. Thanks to a reader, we’ve managed to take down one fake supplier, Louboutinsatin.com from our own list of advertisers today, but I admit it’s easy to be fooled and their ways are cunning…

so what can you do to avoid being duped in this crime against shoe-manity? Read on for our advice…

Georgina Goodman ‘Heidi’ lace shoes on sale

By AbiSilvester on July 2nd, 2009

georgina-goodman-lace.jpg
I couldn’t believe my luck when I spotted my current favourite style by Georgina Goodman in the ’60%’ off section over at My-Wardrobeearlier today. Ladies, I think the word is ‘squeeee!’

Goodman’s designs have the trend for elegant and perfectly shapely shoes down to a fine art, and as if that style alchemy wasn’t enough in itself, she’s added a beautiful lace overlay here that’s perfect for a wedding look with (my favourite detail of all) stripey soles! The shoes are now £120, which makes them a great choice for a special occasion or treat shoe. Pick up a pair here. The slightly more out-there ‘Agatha’ style is also on sale…

Wedding shoes for brides with big or small feet

By AbiSilvester on July 1st, 2009

size-2-shoes.jpgFeet are funny things. I know loads of people whose shoe sizes fall outside the standard range, and even within it you’re likely to have problems: my own feet are a ‘petite’ size four but are so wide that I’m limited to a very restricted selection of styles and most people I know who take a half size are seldom happy with the fit of their footwear. And I can’t think of any worse occasion than one’s wedding day to be stuck with ill-fitting shoes…

But setting aside the gripes we all have with our feet, let’s think for a moment of those who really can’t just go into a shop and buy a pair that’ll pretty much fit. The size two and size ten ladies who are sized out of the joy of shoe-purchases. Unthinkable isn’t it? But fortunately there are a few designers out there determined to ensure that they can get hold of a decent pair of wedding shoes.

Lace print court shoes channel two-tone trend

By AbiSilvester on June 22nd, 2009

lace-wedding-shoes.jpgI love these elegant lace-pattern court shoes by Karen Millen in their own right, but it struck me that they’d be perfect companions to the crop of black lace overlay-style wedding dresses that are popular at the moment. Seen up close, the detailing on these shoes (particularly on the bow) is incredible – they’d be shoes to wear long after the big day!

Occasion footwear is coming up roses

By AbiSilvester on June 16th, 2009

roses-shoes.jpgRoses are in full bloom on the catwalk this season, and even more of a feature in bridalwear. Whether or not you want floral motifs on your dress, the look can be set of beautifully with a rose ornament on your feet, and there’s a huge choice of styles out there at the moment that would work well for brides, guests and bridesmaids alike.

My favourites are the monochrome designs with juicy, plump flowers made from plastic or perspex; perfect for giving an outfit a touch of modish class. Karen Millen (top right) have the look spot on, with a slimlined shoe shape that contrast beautifully with the giant bloom. At £135 it isn’t the cheapest of the selection, but it’s certainly the most striking.

Real Brides: Gill’s fabulous shoes

By AbiSilvester on June 11th, 2009

jimmy-choo-wedding-shoes.jpgGillian Edwards writes: Once my dress was all sorted, my thoughts turned to what I was most excited about: wedding shoes. I knew I wanted ones I could wear again, so that ruled out anything remotely brida or made of satin.

So, the following Saturday I hot-footed it down to Selfridges shoe department to go shopping! First port of call was Gina, where I found the most amazing pair of sparkly shoes ever, which I instantly fell in love with and didn’t want to take off. Thinking I couldn’t find a pair I liked more than those, I then looked at Jimmy Choo, and found the less sparkly, but no less amazing classic gold slingbacks.

Bridal footwear bargains at the Shoe Studio

By AbiSilvester on June 2nd, 2009

Loking for some fashion-forward, well made footwear to complement your outfit? If so, I’ve picked out some shoe bargains for you that could make the difference between shelling out an extra hundred quid and pocketing the change — without compromising on style.

cheap-wedding-shoes.jpg
These styles by Bertie and Coast are utterly on trend, with the season’s signature floral look in wedding-friendly colours.

Roses are particularly big news in fashion at the moment, and work perfectly with bridal styles, and as a long-term lover of Bertie I can certainly attest to the comfort of some of these shoes. But best of all are the prices – I’m guessing they’ve slashed them because not many people are buying cream shoes right now – but it’s great news for brides!

All styles pictured are available at The Shoe Studio

And the bride wore Lanvin…

By AbiSilvester on May 26th, 2009

pink silk lanvin.jpgLanvin is the name that’s on everyone’s lips at the moment, and on the feet and bodies of the seriously cool. So why not make a statement on your wedding day with a pair that will look just as good gliding down the aisle as they will with your best evening dresses for many years to come?

This pair of satin peep-toe mules would look amazing with a princess-style or ballgown skirt and being not overly weddingy, will be well worth the £410 price tag. You know you want to! Find them online at Browns.

footlux-2.jpgFootlux have some gorgeous classic and contemporary shoe styles specially made for brides, and to celebrate their anniversary, they’re offering you 20% off all of their styles.

My personal favourite are these ‘Camelia’ slingbacks which are decorated with a beautiful and summery corsage that would suit so many of the dresses that are currently popular so well. There’s loads more to choose from in the sale though, including clothes and bags – whether you’re buying for your wedding, or just a girly treat.

Dazzling bridal shoes by Lanvin

By AbiSilvester on May 12th, 2009

lanvin-shoes.jpgI was completely blown away when I first clapped eyes on these amazingly decadent shoes by Lanvin, which aer shiny all over; from the satin sheen of their nude uppers to the daring Swarovski ‘bracelet’ around their skinny heels.

For most of us, these will have to be filed safely in the ‘shoe inspiration’ category for now, as they’re not cheap. But it did occur to me that when there’s a wedding in the offing, we all turn our minds to those ‘investment purchases’ you’d never normally go for, so why not make these your wedding shoes and keep them for dressing up afterwards? They’re yours for £780 at Net-a-Porter

Karen Millen butterfly peep-toe sandals

By AbiSilvester on May 6th, 2009

karen-millen-butterfly-shoes.jpgKaren Millen really is the queen of occasionwear, and she’s come up trumps with these peep-toe sandals that are adorned with an almost lifelike butterfly decoration that’s perfect wedding wear for brides and guests alike!

The subtle platform gives these shoes their fashion-forward edge, making them perfect for those who want to attend formal events without having to resort to stuffy dressed-up footwear. £150 at Karen Millen

Sparkle your way down the aisle in Louboutins

By AbiSilvester on May 5th, 2009

glitter-louboutin.jpgThis fairytale shoe has been doing the rounds on many of the bridal blogs this past week or so, but I just had to feature it as it speaks so loudly to my inner princess I just had to have it too! *stomp*.

Louboutin’s glitter platform pumps are the stuff dreams are made of, and if you’re going for glam on your big day, these could be the perfect wedding present to yourself. They’re not classic bridal satin, but who’s saying that’s a bad thing? Having these beauties peeping out from a contemporary-style ivory gown sounds like a great start to married life to me!

Budget Bridal shoes by Red Herring

By AbiSilvester on April 29th, 2009

red-herring-bow-heels.jpgI spotted these stylish chocolate bow peep-toe heels over on Shoewawa, and immediately thought they’d make fantastic wedding shoes. They’re made from a shimmery material (with obligatory oversized bow!) that looks special enough to do the job but will really help with the budget at just £30, and I like the Louboutin-style block colour heels, too.

Available at Debenhams

Somewhere over the rainbow…

By AbiSilvester on April 28th, 2009

rainbow-club.jpgNo, I’m not about to suggest you wear ruby slippers on your big day (although I’d wholeheartedly approve of anyone who did!) but I just wanted to sing the praises of Rainbow Club, whose shoes and accessories seem to be enjoying major success among style-conscious brides just now.

And it’s easy to see why: the prices are pretty decent, quality’s great and there are some top designers on board. Follow the jump to see what I picked out while accessorizing for my fantasy wedding!
