Prince William and Princess Catherine set for world tour but honeymoon plans remain unknown

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on May 3rd, 2011

If you didn’t manage to catch a real-life glimpse of Prince William and Princess Catherine last Friday, 29 April, when they married at Westminster Abbey – perhaps you were, like us, close enough to hear the cheers from the crowds outside Buckingham Palace as we watched the events from Hyde Park but not in clear view of the couple – you could be able to see the newlyweds as they head off on a “world tour” next year.

According to The Sun, the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are to make official visits to Australia, New Zealand and the Caribbean, as well as other Commonwealth countries in Africa and Asia to ease 85-year-old Queen Elizabeth’s workload in her Diamond Jubilee year.

This is not part of their honeymoon plans, which have yet to be revealed. However, rumours have it that William and Catherine will jet off to a secret hideaway in the Indian Ocean for a belated honeymoon. The newlyweds spent their first weekend as husband and wife at a secret location in the UK, away from the media attention.

Where do you think the happy newlyweds are heading for their honeymoon?

More Britons Go Abroad To Get Married

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on February 4th, 2011

If you’re planning on getting married overseas this year you’re not alone.

According to new research by Mintel, almost 1/3 more UK couples chose to get married abroad in 2010 than 2005. Both cheaper overseas travel and a higher cost for getting married in Britain are contributing factors for the 27% rise. While Britons search for something different or better weather, getting married outside the boarders of Britain has its downsides: time and money spent on travel might not be welcomed by potential guests, so ensure that the ones that matter are happy to join you before booking the venue!

Where would you most like to get married then: an Italian castle that overlooks the rolling hills of Tuscany; a Vegas ceremony with you, your man and Elvis; or close to where you live?

Mapping Out Your Honeymoon

By Elisabeth Edvardsen on January 27th, 2011

Where Is Your Honeymoon Going?

Fewer couples are going for the classic honeymoon and prefer different solutions and dynamics as they are faced with both personal and professional responsibilities wedding list site Zankyou.com has found.

We know this so well. Not many of us can just pack up our lives and leave the country for two week luxury honeymoon – what would our boss not to mention our Twitter followers say!

Social media addictions aside, it seems like many are now either choosing to go on a ”honeyweekend” or take time out from their careers to go on the trip of a lifetime. With these changes also comes the need for flexibility, not only in the way you organise your honeymoon but also for your wedding gift list. That gravy boat isn’t much use if you’re going away for 6 months now is it?

Zankyou’s wedding gift list service is quite clever. It allows happy couples to list any gifts they like, including stages of their honeymoon! For those who list stages of their honeymoon, the service now comes with a “Honeymoon Map” which will locate all activities listed. In ways it is a mini-social network that keeps nearest and dearest updated on where their experience-gifts are taking place. So get listing those museum visits, hotel stays and scuba diving lessons – just remember to take photos!

Now Bridalwave would be more than happy to relocate our desks for a fortnight to a sandy beach in a warmer climate where sipping margaritas at noon was the norm while London gets over this new cold snap. If anyone wants to send us on a trip to somewhere sunny, do get in touch!

Gallery: Honeymoon clothing

By Andrea Petrou on January 21st, 2010

Every couple feels a little bit smug when they’re jetting off on their honeymoon.

After all, you only get married once and it’s your way of showing all the other holiday makers that you’ve accomplished the wars of the wedding day. While some may tell a select few fellow passengers or an air hostess that it’s their honeymoon others may go that bit further.

If, like Monica and Chandler in Friends, you want to tell anyone who will listen, or in this case look, that you’re on your honeymoon then we’ve found the clothing to do it with, making you look like a WAG in the process.

Travel show to help you make a honeymoon choice

By Andrea Petrou on August 27th, 2009

Thumbnail image for 8-7-08-eco-honeymoon.jpgSun, sea and lots of, er, food and drink, that’s what honeymoon’s are about right? But with so many destinations offering these how do you know which one is best for you?

Of course you can read up and research over the internet, or get your travel agent to do the leg work but both these take time.

This is why we like the sound of the Conde Nast Luxury Travel Fair so much. It’s basically a range of travel agents and companies under one roof.

Taking place in November (yes we it’s a bit of a while away but we know you brides need to plan ahead) at Olympia London, the fair will cover every holiday you can think of including skiing (for those of us who adventurous) and Safaris.

There will also be companies offering desert walks (we’ll leave that one to you) and child friendly luxury resorts for couples wishing to take their children with them.

But it’s not just holidays; the show will also include representatives from a range of tourist boards so you can get an idea of what to do when you’re on holiday.

There will also be a range of companies that offer help and packages for brides thinking about getting married abroad. Right, well that settles it; I’ll be grabbing my other half and heading down there.

We’ll also give you a full report of the show after it happens.

Essential accessories for summer brides

By AbiSilvester on April 23rd, 2009

summer-wedding-essentials.jpgGetting married abroad in a location with guaranteed sun rules out certain problems that UK-based brides face at any time of year: you won’t need to worry about having umbrellas and wellie-boots on standby, for example. But it does pose some issues of its own: do you have a pair of sunglasses you’re happy to wear throughout the day, a supply of good quality sun cream and ways to keep cool when you start to sweat? If not, check out our list of must-have summer essentials for the jet-set bride.

What to pack for laid-back honeymoon lounging

By AbiSilvester on April 21st, 2009

honeymoon-loungewear.jpgA friend of mine recently jetted off on a three week honeymoon, having reserved the entire first week for the sole purpose of chilling out, lounging and generally doing as little as possible. Just imagine that! A week of pure indulgence, with nothing to worry about beyond when your next glass of champagne is going to arrive. Just what you need after months of planning.

I thought about this idea of a ‘lazy break’ when I found out about a company called Lazeme that specialise in luxury sleepwear, beachwear and everything else you need for a relaxing break. There’s some wonderful stuff here that’s perfect for those times when you just want to pamper yourself, but unlike the usual pjs and t-shirt combo, will make you feel glamorous, too.

Read on for more info on the items I’ve picked out.

A romantic getaway the Ralph Lauren way

By Andrea Thatcher on February 25th, 2009

Romance Always Yours at Rosewood - FINAL.jpg

A few weeks ago I wrote about the Ralph Lauren Romance Always Yours fragrance and how perfect it would be for a wedding scent. Well, it seems the 10th anniversary of the original Romance perfume really has the folks at Ralph Lauren thinking romantically (like us!).

Along with Rosewood Hotels and Resorts, they’ve created a custom weekend getaway package for $799 that includes two nights in one of their luxurious hotels, a customized Ralph Lauren cashmere throw (there’s that monogramming I love), a limited edition bottle of Romance Always Yours, a candlit dinner and spa treatments for two, and more.

This would make a great wedding present or first anniversary treat. Perhaps you could even use the weekend to look at the hotel for a wedding venue! The Ralph Lauren package is only available through the end of March. Call 1-888-Rosewood or visit www.rosewoodhotels.com to make reservations.

Sandals offer WeddingMoons

By admin on January 27th, 2009

Sandals WeddingMoon.jpgThe concept of heading overseas for a combined wedding and honeymoon is hardly a new one, but Sandals have seen fit to coin it a name anyway. Meet the WeddingMoon. See what they did there? Clever.

Sandals have 12 Caribbean resorts and offer wedding ceremonies as part of their WeddingMoon package when couples take a six night stay in a butler or concierge service category. The WeddingMoon package also includes the bridal bouquet and grooms bouttoniere, a special romantic dinner for the couple, wedding photograph, two tiered Caribbean wedding cake and a professional wedding consultant who will deal with paperwork and logistics. Other wedding packages are available with the resort and you can find out more via their website here.

Honeymoon loungewear by Fairygothmother

By AbiSilvester on January 26th, 2009

fairygothmother-kimono.jpgFor most couples, the honeymoon is a long-awaited oasis of relaxation and lounging, involving as much staying in as possible, preferably in the holiday home of your dreams! But we all know there’s a fine line between lounging and lazing, so if you want to avoid starting off your married life in your old pyjamas, now is the time to invest in some sexy and stylish loungewear.

Fairygothmother doesn’t sell anything that isn’t stylish or sexy, so it’s no surprise that it does a good line in boudouir accessories. What is impressive is that it’s selling off many of these items at great prices. This kimono dressing gown, for example, is £37 reduced from £75, and would make ideal honeymoon wear.

Hold me, frill me, kiss me: Oli frill cross back dress

By Hannah Kane on January 21st, 2009

Oli frill cross back dress.jpgThis little number from Oli would make a perfect destination wedding dress. I’m thinking dewy tanned skin, the sea breeze blowing through your artfully tousled hair, some posh sandals… You get the picture! It’s enough to make me want to book the next flight to Fiji with the boy… Luckily the frock is only £58.72 which should make the elopement more affordable…

Licence to thrill: Calvin Klein colour block bikini

By Hannah Kane on December 18th, 2008

CK bikini.jpgIf you’re honeymooning in some far away island paradise (you lucky, lucky girl) then you’ll be needing a stylish get-up for the beach. I love this monochrome halter neck bikini by Calvin Klein from House of Fraser – the sassy belt detail on the pant will make you feel like a Bond girl!

Calvin Klein moulded halter neck bikini top £32.29, belted classic pant £39.14.

Fancy getting married on board ship? CruiseCritic have just let us know that they’ve compiled a comprehensive guide to getting wed at sea. Cruise ships can perform a wedding for you with packages that cover elements from the cake to photography and more. However, they do tell us that you’ll need to make sure the captain can perform a legal wedding and not just a ceremony with the legal bits and paperwork done in the terminal beforehand.

New trend: Altruistic honeymoons with Voluntours

By admin on November 28th, 2008

AcaciaAfrica.jpg
Acacia Adventure Holidays have just let us know about a rising trend for honeymoons with a twist. Instead of taking yet another beach holiday, why not put your first weeks together to memorable use (minds out of gutters!) with a feel good ‘voluntour’. With choices including conservation, anti-poaching, education and other charitable concerns in Africa there’s plenty for adventurous couples to chose from with plenty of fun thrown in.
