Wow your guests with a Stilton cheese wedding cake

By admin on May 8th, 2008

Cheese cake.jpgI’m quite stunned. I’ve never seen anything like this. Yes, we’ve featured cheese cakes before but have they been quite as artistic as this tiered style? No.

The Stilton cheese cake can add a little something blue to your wedding whether you fancy a traditional cake as well or the cheese variety as a centrepiece for a fabulous buffet. Made by famous cheese makers Long Clawson Dairy in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, who are one of only seven dairies allowed to make Stilton, the layers of blue Stilton and white Stilton are blended with blueberry or apricots and can be supplied with cake boards, pillars and dowels.

Watch the wedding cake designer Shinmin Li at Chow.com

By admin on April 28th, 2008

Chow cake.JPG
New foodie site Chow.com has tons of recipe ideas if you want something quick to make or an update on an old recipe. However, for us, we’ve got some great video clips dedicated to wedding cake in the Video section under Obsessives. Here you’ll find six clips from cake maker Shinmin Li from I Dream of Cake talking about how wedding cakes have evolved, why cakes can be so expensive and what happens on the day from transporting to assembling and cutting the cake. Good behind the scenes stuff.

Custom Mii wedding toppers for Wii fans

By admin on April 24th, 2008

WeddingMii.JPG
Wii fans can get their own little Wii Miis at their wedding with these cure wedding cake toppers. If you’re not familiar with the games console (I love mine) a Mii is a virtual version of yourself and can be used in gameplay. The four inch tall pair of figures can be crafted from your own Mii and retail for $140 at MiiSculptures but there’s bound to be a UK version out there. [via GearLive]

Cupcakes from Le Cupcake

By admin on April 16th, 2008

852028782_892e5c7b37.jpgIt’s possible that I’m just writing about Le Cupcake because I wanted an excuse to drool over lots of lovely pictures of cupcakes… but just look at them!

You can see more at Le Cupcake’s blog. Based in Australia, they are apparently “at the forefront of cupcake design” which is funny, because I’m at the forefront of cupcake eating worldwide…

Cute and quirky cake toppers from Accessorize Your Wedding

By admin on March 25th, 2008

7095.jpgCake toppers aren’t to everyone’s tastes, but I really think that a well chosen set is cute and kitsch in the best possible way. Accessorize Your Wedding have a great range of both traditional and unusual mix and match wedding topper figures, my favourite being the pair pictured.

The Reaching Bride & Helpful Groom set are part of the range of interchangable figures, which feature a range of brides and grooms in different poses and of different colourings and races. Each figurine is made from porcelain and costs a great price of £15.98.

Engagement cakes at Pink Cake Box

By admin on March 18th, 2008

Engagementcakes.JPG
Stop what you’re doing and go visit Pink Cake Box (well, wait till you’ve finished reading here anyway) and take a look at the engagement cakes which are mind blowingly gorgeous. Engagement cakes haven’t really caught on in the UK but if these styles are anything to go by, this trend is sure to hit our shores soon. On the left is a brown and turqoise creation with red velvet cake as top and middle tiers with raspberry chambord and cream cheese filling. Right, there’s a tropical themed cake made from white and chocolate with oreo filling, pina colada, cocount and pineapple filling.

Whilst you’re there, make sure you check out the toolbox wedding rehearsal cake and the Tiffany cupcake tower. Visit Pink Cake Box here.

Don’t Forget the Cake’s chocolate cone cake

By admin on March 11th, 2008

darkchocfruitconepopup.jpgI used to drive past Don’t Forget the Cake, the shop that made this cake, and gaze longingly through the window. Not because I was in the market for a wedding cake, just because everything looked so beautiful.

This cake, reminding me as it does of a stack of giant Cadbury’s Snaps, is my current favourite. It costs £420, but it says it serves 100. Not if I had anything to do with it, it wouldn’t…

Black and white photograph wedding cake

By admin on March 7th, 2008

blackandwhiteweddingcake.jpgI love this idea – supply your own photographs and cake company Maisie Fantaisie will transfer them to sugar paper and apply them to the cake!

It’s such a simple idea, but at the same time, what a great way to totally personalise the cake and make it as much about your relationship as the rest of the wedding (hopefully) is. The three tier cake costs £850.

Marzipan treats at Eugene and Louise

By admin on February 29th, 2008

EugeneLouise.JPGWhilst I’m not sure what these are – cake toppers? Keepsakes? – but aren’t they full of cuteness? The marzipans are shaped into little… blobs, but adorable character blobs like ‘Puff’, pictured, who would probably make an exceptionally sweet favour. The Eugene and Louise bakery is situated in Antwerp so you’ll have to put your travelling shoes on.

Stack of donuts wedding cake

By admin on February 29th, 2008

donutcake.jpgOh this cake makes me so happy. By A Tier Above Cakes, it’s a stack of donuts (I know the UK spelling is doughnuts, but I’m just so lazy…) with a cup of coffee on top.

The cakes are designed by Shelley Newman, who has previously worked in the pastry kitchens of the Ritz Carlton and the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco.

Beautiful cakes by the Bakery Bar

By admin on February 5th, 2008

bakerybar.jpgWhat to choose? A traditional cake or cupcakes? Traditional cake or cupcakes? There are some beautiful cakes out there, but cupcakes are so, so cute. Now, thanks to the Bakery Bar, I don’t need to choose.

And it’s not just the cake/cupcake combo that I love so much, it’s the design on the cakes. Flowers and birdies. Me happy.

Just Married cake

By admin on January 15th, 2008

justmarriedcake1.jpgDo you know I can lose hours surfing around various wedding cake sites. While I’m not getting married (I’m already married), I do love a good cake and there are few cakes more beautiful than a beautiful wedding cake.

This one is by Flour Patch Bakery and I love the kind of 2-D effect of the couple on the top and the words down the side. Makes me think of the old Paddington Bear cartoons.

Chocolate button cake at the Daisy Hill Cake Company

By admin on January 14th, 2008

DaisyHill.JPGThe Daisy Hill Cake Company, founded by Cordon Bleu patisserie chef Sophie Constable, has a fun and imaginative range of wedding cakes with themes including bright green apples or cupcakes with dragonflies. One of my favourites is this white chocolate button cake. With four layers of white chocolate curls edged in chocolate brown ribbon, it’s finished with a mound of choccy buttons. Yum!
