Got something you want to tell your partner?

By admin on March 17th, 2008

PissMeOffPad4-376.jpgWe’ve featured Things You Can Do To Make Me Happy, so it’s only fair that we also show you the alternative, which comes in notepad form.

Suggested irritants include “Screen your calls”, “Think you’re helping”, “Undertip” and you can even tick a box to tell your “loved” one whether you’re willing to put up with it or not. It’s available from Delight (who now ships to the UK!) for $6.95.

The ultimate ethical wedding gift from Concern’s Positive Presents

By admin on March 17th, 2008

pineapple-on.jpgWhat do you get the couple who has everything? Rather than buying the happy couple yet another toaster, you can offer a really unique and ethical gift from Concern’s Positive Presents project.

You can choose to donate from £15 to over £100 to the Concern Charity in the newlyweds name. A really admirable way to make a little bit of a difference in the midst of a very decadent day, and a perfect gift for any couple who are throwing a very Green bash.

Does anyone really need a wedding frisbee?

By admin on March 10th, 2008

Wedding-Frisbee.jpgI have to say, it’s not something I’ve ever really thought about or wondered about or … anything really. A wedding frisbee, I mean.

They’re available from Beaucoup, who suggest that you “include wedding frisbees in welcome baskets for your out-of-town guests and suggest a nearby park where they can relax before the reception”. I have to say I love that idea. I can just picture the expression on your guests’ faces when you hand them a frisbee and point out the park. Excellent.

Etsy Buy of the Week: Tonight/Not tonight door hanger

By admin on March 10th, 2008

nottonight.jpgI had to pick this this week because it made me laugh.

Maroon china silk with silver embroidery, ribbon, and a tassel, it features an invitation (“Tonight!”) on one side and a refusal (“Not tonight”) on the other.

Personally, I’d hope that most couples could communicate this without the assistance of a door hanger, but it’d make a good gift for a hen night or (as if) stag night. Get it from hodgepodgeia on Etsy.

Bride and groom Kokeshi dolls

By admin on February 28th, 2008

kokeshi.jpgI’m not usually a fan of wedding dolls, they generally give me the creeps, but I *am* a fan of Japanese Kokeshi dolls. These traditional wooden dolls (usually made from Cherry or Mizuki trees) were first made about 150 years ago as toys for the children of farmers.

This cute bride and groom set costs £69.99 from The Japanese Shop.

Etsy Buy of the Week: Love rocks

By admin on February 25th, 2008

loverocks.jpgI love this idea, but I mostly love the name. “Love rocks.” Heh. Works on two levels. Also makes me think of love *on* the rocks, which sends my mind down the line of using this rock to, you know, smash someone’s stuff up. Which is not good and only goes to show how fickle love can be. All that from a rock. Huh.

It’s available from sjengraving on Etsy (and you know you can get it engraved with your own names and date, right?).

Get your own personalised doormat

By admin on February 19th, 2008

doormats.JPG
There’s a lot of naff stuff in the wedding world and this might just be considered one of them. You can personalise the doormat with a message of your choice (Just Married, anyone?) or with your names up to 12 characters (Mr & Mrs?) and it’s a sight more useful than an unwanted china tureen. It costs £27.95 at Getting Personal.

Say ‘Thanks’ with a piece of art

By admin on February 6th, 2008

Thanks_lrg.jpgIf you’re looking for something different for your bridesmaids and attendants, how about these THANKS “Visible Markers” by Allan McCollum?

According to the Cereal Art website, Visible Markers “serve as a constant reminder of the importance of giving and receiving gratitude, appreciation, and gratefulness”. They’d want to since they cost $50 for five and they’re titchy (3 3/4 inch x 1 inch). Having said that I do like them, but that might just be because they remind me of wine gums…

Send the bride a Pajamagram

By admin on January 22nd, 2008

pajamagram.jpgI was originally thinking of these Pajamagrams – pajamas sent by post and parcelled up with a lavender sachet and a do not disturb card – as a great bridesmaid/attendant gift, but the more I looked around the site, the more possibilities I found.

There’s a beautiful full-length, silk charmeuse nightgown, embellished with Swarovski crystals, that any bride would, I’m sure, be delighted to have. There’s also the option to send his’n'hers pajama sets to the bride and groom and they are, well, they made me laugh a lot.

Carry on over the cut to see the sublime and the ridiculous!

A wedding day photograph with a difference

By admin on January 4th, 2008

myfirstday.jpgThe idea behind My First Day is that the photograph was taken on the day your child was born, but I think it applies equally well to your wedding day (or the day you met, or got engaged…).

Every day, since mid-summer’s day 2005, landscape photographer Gavan Goulder has taken stunning photographs of the Cornish coastline. So you choose the day, pick a frame and then decide on the hand-written wording to appear below the photograph (up to 40 characters).

A gorgeous gift and a beautiful keepsake. I just wish they’d been available both when I got married and when my son was born.
