Yay or nay?

Berketex1_2I’m keen to hear what you think of this three quarter length dress from Berketex bride. It follows the trend of shortening hem lines in wedding dresses for a more modern and far less princessy look. The strapless gown has a sturdy looking bust with a raised waist accentuated by a pretty pink ribbon bow. The skirt flows into an A-line whilst the pink rose and leaf pattern gives the dress oomph.

But what do you think – do shorter dresses work for brides?

Frockhorror4Low end frock horrors aren’t quite so challenging (see here, here and here), unlike this colourful little scarlet number. I’m dying to see what you think of this one. I’m guessing the brief went like this. "Hey! Guess what?! I have some material left over from making up the community hall curtains, fancy whipping the leftovers up into a dress? Yay!"

Of course, to make sure everything was nicely co-ordinated, they threw in some red gloves and a bride of the devil style red veil.

Oh Pronuptia, you got it so wrong. £1950 of wrong

Wednesday’s Yay or Nay

BadgelyJudging by your emails you all found last weeks Dress Up or Dress Down frankly boring. It’s classic and traditional look didn’t even win it any votes. So, can we up the style stakes?

The dress on the left is the popular column style with the nipped in waist that will be huge this season. Instead of a corset, the waist is accentuated with a ribboned cummerbund in a shimmery creamy gold. There has been a lot of attention paid to the detail on this gown with plenty of intricate beading and embroidery. A fluted, raised hem like this one deserves a great pair of shoes and these strappy sandals are perfect.

Get your thinking caps on and make a guess. Is it by a high end designer or a cut price bargain?

Let me know what you think… and the answer is after the jump.

Frock Horror

Frockhorror3After deciding that eBay was simply not that much of a challenge when it comes to finding foul frocks we went on a little journey around the web.

Et voila! We weren’t dissapointed. Oh no!Sometimes the designers just make it too easy! This er, creation is a three piece of unrivalled bad taste.

We’ll admit the bodice is ok albeit possibly more suited to a wedding in a nightclub than in your average church unless your aim is to make the vicar pop his monocle. Whilst the bodice has a jacquard rose print, the pencil skirt is plain. Though I’m sure you’re all wondering why she has a waterfall of loo roll cascading down her back. Us too. It’s available in silver or gold. *shudder*

Guess the price…

Wednesday’s Yay or Nay

Yaynay2Last weeks ‘Dress Up or Dress Down?‘ got quite a mixed response with 8 of you liking the Maggie Sottero dress, 5 being torn due to its split personality. Only 1 of you gave it a firm dressing down!

So, lets see what you think of this weeks very traditional big white number. This Mon Cheri dress ticks most of the boxes – it’s classic, traditional and understated. The heavy dulciana satin bodice with its tipped shoulders harks back to the fifties era whilst the full tulle skirt gives it the modern princess look. The only embellishment is the pearl and rhinestones around the neckline.

You can see a couple of more pics after the jump then tell me how you feel… Is the dress the picture of traditional perfection or veering towards an uncomfortable juxtaposition between plain and princess?

Love it or hate it and why?

Frock horror

Frockhorror2 This is quite possibly one of the most horrendous dresses we have had the misfortune to come across. Again, where to start? What to pick out first?

Let’s start with the material. Shiny shiny satin is just not a good look for anyone due to its tendancy to define the lumps and bumps that you are normally trying to hide. Then there are those puffed out eighties shoulders…

The sweatheart neckline is fine but the embroidery is way way too over the top. Thrown in to the mix is the translucent arms and embroidered neckline that frankly, should just not be there. And whilst a train is normally a beautiful accent to a dress, one that is gathered and pleated to this extent is not.

The full horror of the dress can be witnessed in multiple angles here but right now, my eyes are bleeding so take it away! Seen something worse? Let us know!

Ms_yolanda_1 Maggie Sottero has been a favourite of mine for wedding gowns for some time now as she produces a wide range of elegant gowns from the simple column to the more dramatic romantic styles.

However with this Yolanda dress, I just can’t make up my mind.

As you can see on the left (or click on the pic for a bigger version), the dress has a rose blush corset back bodice with lace overlay and cap sleeves. The skirt is completely plain except for the contrasting print side panel.

Do you love it or hate it and why?

The very first Frock horror

By admin on March 3rd, 2006

Frockhorror1Amongst all the beautiful gowns, a monster lurks. And not just one, there’s lots and lots of these hideous creations just waiting to pounce on the poor unsuspecting bride.

Let’s take a look at the very first Frock Horror example on the left. Where to begin? I think, just maybe, we might start with that frothy whipped cream ruching around the middle. I think the brainstorming for this dress ran something like… women hate their thighs, we must disguise them, we must mound fabric roll after fabric roll across the offending area until it is completely covered and no one will ever guess they are not skinny rakes.

Of course I could be completely wrong in which case it’s your for the princely sum of £4.99 Would you wear it? Discuss in the comments section!
