Alice in Wonderland Mia.jpg

Alice in Wonderland has not only steam rolled onto cinema screens, but also made a huge impact in the fashion world, with everyone giving a nod to this trend in some way or the other. And you can bet that this trend will also make a huge impact on bridal themes and styles.

We've therefore decided to put together a guide to have an Alice in Wonderland themed wedding, which is perfect for brides looking for something that little bit different.

The Venue
One of the most obvious themes for your wedding day is a tea party, which works best in a garden or countryside venue. There are many places that are suitable for this. Why not check out a National Trust property, which has big gardens for hire. or pick an English garden full of wild flowers and fanciful topiaries.

Ladew Gardens in Monkton, MD and Green Animals Topiary Garden in Portsmouth are just two of these. If you have your heart set on an Alice theme wedding in the winter then perhaps a marquee may be a good choice here too. Include the weather in preparations by adding a little winter wonderland theme in here too.

The dress.
The best thing about this themed wedding is that you can pretty much have whatever style you like here. However if you really want to tie in with the wacky theme then we suggest you go for something a little bit out of this world. We're thinking ruffles, feathers and princess style dresses. You could even opt for a 50s short frock here and bravely team it with white lace tights for the ultimate look.

Put bridesmaids in blue satin knee length frocks and complete with white or cream sashes, to give a nod to Alice's dress. If you're feeling brave you could also opt to keep in with the queen of hearts by getting your maid of honour to dress up in black to represent the queen or be brave and opt for a black wedding dress with a red sash.

The groom
There's a few themes you can go for here. First off is of course a mad hatter look. Think high top hats, stripy waistcoats and black trousers. If your other half agrees you could also get him to wear a teapot pin tie.

Alternatively take a hint from the white rabbit. Get your man dressed up top to toe in black, complete with a waistcoat then add the all important pocket watch. If this still isn't enough then how about a nod to the queen of hearts?

Black t-shirts with card shapes and numbers could work here. Keep in with the queen of hearts by getting your maid of honour to dress up in black to represent the queen or be brave and opt for a black wedding dress with a red sash.

Decoration
Dress tables with white tablecloths and mismatched vintage china. Tiered cake stands and glass punch bowls will make perfect containers for your floral tablecentres, and why not use playing cards as place cards? Decorate chairbacks with ribbon, bows or fresh flowers. You could also be more daring and get some little white rabbits to have running around the gardens.

Food
Tasty finger food and desserts so that guests can eat and talk at the same time.
Drinks should, of course, include an assortment of teas - or serve cocktails in pretty floral teacups. You could even ask guests to each bring along a crazy hat to wear to really enter into the spirit of the day.

Intricately decorated cookies, such as those offered by Peggy Porschen, or Fancy Nancy cookies (£8.50 for 90g), from Harvey Nichols with "Eat me" and "Take one" hand-written in icing are also a must have. You can also bake little cupcakes with the words 'eat me' written on them in icing Add jam and cucumber sandwiches cut in the shape of butterflies and instead of a first dance why not play your other half at a leisurely game of croquet?

Favours
For favours, present each guest with Mad Hatter Top Hat Tea Bags (£3.50 for 2g at Harvey Nichols), containing a blend of Kenyan Rooibos and Indian Assam tea. The Wedding Channel also has personalised tea bags that come complete with key lime cookies and mint julep tea. You can also opt to give each guest a personlised deck of wedding cards if tea isn't your thing.

The cake
We think you can have an extraordinary amount of fun with this part of the wedding. Choose between cupcakes with little icing pictures of your favourite Alice in Wonderland characters or perhaps go for one huge top hat instead.

Bridal Trends SS2010: Little White Dresses

Comments (0)

Brides to be who want to show off their legs, or just be a little bit different can rejoice, because this season it's all about the Little White Wedding Dress.

Although these have been around for a good few years, and we've spoken about them alot, many highstreet designers have steered away from stocking these fearing traditional brides won't even look twice.

However, it seems all of this is changing. This year Berketex Brides started stocking a few of these little lovlies, as did Debenhams. And of course they were all over the catwalk at last year's SS2010 wedding shows.

If you're not a regular reader let us tell you why we think these little dresses are perfect for your wedding (if your a loyal reader here's a reminder.)

Firstly they are perfect for a Summer or Indian summer wedding as it means you don't have to sweat and boil under layers of fabric, and of course that makes them perfect for a destination wedding too.

We also think they are perfect for wearing again after the big day either to a summer party or on holiday with a pair of flip flops. If you opt for a porous fabric such as satin these can also be dyed to any colour you like, meaning that LWD could soon become a LBD.

With news of vaious celebrities announcing their engagement, most recently Lara Stone and today model Coco Rocha, we thought it only right to put together a gallery of the most memorable and iconic weddings.

And beleive us there's been alot. We've whittled it down to our favourites, but we'll also be popping one or two into our posts in the upcoming months.

We're very excited that Lara Stone has announced her friend and Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci will be making her gown for her upcoming wedding to David Walliams.

We knew the stunning model would go for designer, after all when you're a model for Louis Vuitton, you're accustomed to the best. However we thought she may have opted for a well known celebrity bridal designer such as Vera Wang, Oscar De La Renta or Dolce & Gabbana.

As there have been no more details about the dress, and of the wedding day including venues, we can only guess about the rest, and guess away we shall.

We've put together a gallery of different dresses and styles, which we think Lara may go for whether she decides on a beach wedding, Hollywood day or for somewhere in the UK.

Let us know what you think Lara may wear by leaving your comments below.

1940s wedding dress ideas

1940s wedding dresses were sometimes plain and sometimes fancy depending on how much the bride and her family had been hit by rationing.

They also became more and more fancy as the era went on and as Britain came out of the war. In our last post we recommended a few places to look for 1940s style wedding frocks but to help you out we've also decided to put together a gallery of frocks which would have been of a similar style in the 1940s.

According to reports Katie had problems finding a wedding dress for her Las Vegas wedding to Alex Reid as the wedding dress shops weren't open at the time the couple wanted to get married.

A source said: 'She had her fashion team trawling all over town for a gown. In the end she just had to make do.'

We're not sure if this was a blessing in disguise judging by the bright pink Barbie frock she wore to her first wedding to Peter Andre, and although we haven't seen what she wore, we've put together some styles that she may have worn down the aisle if she'd had time to pick one up.

We know many brides are unsure about whether or not to carry a bag with them on the big day, after all they won't need their mobile phones as many of their friends and family will be there.
Then there's the worry about what to do with it when your taking your vows.

Although its not by any means a tradition to carry a bag, they do come in handy for keeping make up in, and they can be easily passed to your bridesmaid or maid of honour when you're at the ceremony.

If you like the idea of one then make sure you pick one that matches the shade of your dress. If you can get an exact match you can also customise it by adding sparkles, feathers or beading to detract from the slight colour mismatch.

We've put together a gallery of bags to help you.
