Iconic Brides: Milla Jovovich

Comments (0)

It's not that long ago that we put a list together of iconic brides, but as time has gone on there's been so many more that it would be unfair to leave them out.

So we've decided to start the list again, and what better way to get the ball rolling than with this year's wedding sweetheart Milla Jovovich.

Now I think Milla should be held up quite highly here, as she was brave enough to go through marriage for the third time.

The actress met husband number three, Paul WS Anderson on the set of Resident Evil in 2002 and have been inseparable ever since. They got married in on Saturday August 22 this year at their home in Beverly Hills, with their daughter Ever, 20 months standing in as flower girl.

Among the 50 guests in attendance were Grey's Anatomy actor Patrick Dempsey and his wife Jillian.

Milla's dress was a 60s inspired number, which the actress designed herself as she couldn't find anything else she liked.

She said of her white Grecian style dress; "It's very simple, but beautiful like a late 60s or early 70s white mini. It's very cute."

obama-wedding.jpgUtterly exhausted but clearly very happy, Barack and Michelle Obama posed for this charming photograph at the end of their wedding in October 1992. The pictures taken during the day offer a glimpse into a unique pairing that has been described by friends as "like putting hydrogen and oxygen together to create an unbelievable life force." Often relaxed, the bride and groom are laid-back style personified in this fascinating set of images.

jodi-albert-wedding.jpgJodi Albert of Hollyoaks fame is the second celeb bride I've written about this week to tie the knot in an exotic location wearing Jenny Packham, following our report on Denise Van Outen's stunning destination wedding in the Seychelles.

Barbados was the location of choice for Jodi, who married Westlife singer Kian Egan late last month. She cut a simple but elegant figure in the Packham dress, which is a high-waisted empire line cut with embroidered crystals at the waist. If you want to add a moment of really punishing jealousy to your day, why not check out the couple's wedding venue here? It's certainly daydream fodder for a dull Monday afternoon...

denise-van-outen-wedding.jpgIf you've always harboured a desire to elope; quietly doing the deed somewhere sunny and exotic, then you may want to look to Denise Van Outen's wedding for inspiration. The TV star married Any Dream Will Do star Lee Mead in the Seychelles in April, having told her friends that she and Mead were just going away on holiday, and with just a few close family members in tow.

While Mead went for hippie chic with a string of flowers around his neck, Van Outen wore a 70s style headband and Jenny Packham's gorgeous, empire line 'Rosalind' gown - which I wouldn't have thought of as a 'destination dress', but being relatively simple in terms of cut, it does the job very nicely, and with the bride looking utterly chilled and serene. But who wouldn't in such idyllic surroundings? The couple married at the exclusive Labriz Silhouette Resort, where a wedding package costs 2,200 euros per couple.

lisa-loeb-wedding.jpgLisa Loeb picked well when she married Roey Hershkovitz, the music coordinator for Late Night with Conan O'Brien earlier this year and yes - I am talking about the dress! It's not difficult to see why she chose the stunning silk taffera gown by Amsale Blue Label, whose pale pink hue compliments her skin tone beutifully.

Note its fashionable bubble hem skirt (a style that has divided opinion here on Bridalwave) and belt-style sash, which is held together by a beautiful antique crystal clasp. It's a chic and cosmopolitan look that suits Loeb exceptionally well. [image: Justine Ungaro]

[images unavailable]In the last of our current Iconic Brides series, Amber writes...

It was third time around for actress Demi Moore when she married Ashton Kutcher on September 24, 2005, at their home in Beverly Hills, but with ex-husband Bruce Willis on the guest list, it was still very much a family affair. The age-difference between the bride and groom (Demi was 42 and Ashton was 27 at the time of the wedding) had been the source of much Hollywood gossip during the couple's two-year courtship, but didn't seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the couple of their guests, who included Demi's three daughters, and celebrities such as Lucy Liu and Jason Goldberg.

The bride wore a cream dress by Lanvin, while the groom matched her in a cream suit and fedora. The wedding was a traditional Kabbalah ceremony, and the honeymoon was a working trip to Spain, where Demi shot a champagne commercial.

BoF9%20Mia.JPGLike all good films with a wedding scene, this one doesn't go to plan but then, when was anything in reluctant Princess Mia's life ever straight forward? Heading down the aisle Mia realises she's got it all wrong, queue a quick departure, a change in law in the tiny country not to mention another unexpected wedding.

Mia's dress was quite traditional as you'd expect with an A-line shape, a short train and a very pretty lace off the shoulder detail. As you would expect from a bonafide princess, Mia wore a tiara with a veil and a neat pair of drop earrings.

kate-hudson.jpgSadly, this was one Holywood marriage that was doomed not to last, but the snowy setting of Kate Hudson's winter wedding to Chris Robinson, plus the dramatic Vera Wang gown worn by the bride make Kate an iconic bride all the same. The wedding took place on New Year's Eve, 2000, at Old Snowmass, Colorado, in a private ranch owned by Goldie Hawn (the bride's mother) and Kurt Russell. The white theme included white candles and flowers and the couple were married under a white tent. They picked a good night to celebrate too: they and their 70 guests partied the night away after the ceremony at the the Elk Mountain Lodge, celebrating New Year as well as the wedding.

As you would expect from Brothers & Sisters, Kitty Walker (Calista Flockhart) and Senator McCallister's (Rob Lowe) wedding looks like an elegant affair even if it was fraught with the usual TV pre-wedding scandal (blackmail in this case), a rather unexpected mom-daughter speech from Sally Field's Nora and a will-they-won't they question mark. And in case you didn't see it already, there's a video clip after the turn so you can see exactly what happened right up to the cliffhanger. Enjoy!

[Images unavailable]Sarah Michelle Gellar was yet another celebrity bride who opted to wear a Vera Wang dress when she married Freddie Prinze Jr. in 2002. The couple flew to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, along with a handful of guests, and spent three days relaxing in the sun before marrying at a private hilltop estate with a pool encircling the house. The ceremony was supposed to take place out of doors, but had to be moved inside due to bad weather: it doesn't look like it damped Sarah Michelle's spirits, though: the actress is literally glowing with happiness in the wedding pictures which were released!

Once there was a girl who really enjoyed band camp who met a boy who made apple pie seem wholly un-American and the rest, as they say, was history. American Pie: The Wedding was the final installment in the growing-up comedy series and centres around the nuptials of Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan). The wedding dress plays a part in the film with several hilarious scenes. Made by a hard to find designer named Leslie, Jim and his daft crowd embark on a mission to find her, who actually turns out to be a him, and get the dress of Michelle's dreams. Surprisingly enough, Michelle opted for a traditional A-line teamed with a long veil and cut quite a sophisticated figure along with a suited'n'booted Jim.

debram_danielz01.jpgSanta Barbara was the location for actress Debra Messing's wedding to screenwriter Daniel Zelman, on December 3, 2000. The bride wore a strapless creation by Vera Wang to the outdoor ceremony, which took place on a private estate, with the Pacific Ocean as a backdrop, while the groom wore Hugo Boss, and gave his new wife a 100 year old sapphire ring as a wedding present - lucky Debra!

The 150 guests included Debra's Will and Grace co-stars and the honeymoon took place at Santa Barbara's Bacara Resort.

Brides%20on%20Film%206%20GilmoreGirls.JPGConfession time. I'll admit I've never watched the Gilmore Girls. To many of my acquaintances this is TV heresy. But you know what, there are repeats and the joys of boxsets so I'm sure I'll see it in its entirity eventually.

In the mean time, this soft-pinkish dress worn by Lorelai is a joy with its textured bodice, satin waistband and A-line skirt. The veil is a neat addition and the very delicate tiara sets it off perfectly. But if you want to know what happened at the wedding, one of the Gilmore Girls fans will have to share!

They've rarely been out of the spotlight since their wedding, thanks to a reality TV show and much-publicised pregnancy, but the path to true love didn't exactly run smoothly for Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott - in fact, Tori's divorce from first husband, Charlie Shanian, was only finalised a month before the wedding. The marriage ceremony took place on a Fiji beach, with Tori in a custom-made Badgley Mischka dress. The groom also wore white and both went barefoot for the very private ceremony, with no guests in attendance. At least they didn't have to travel for their honeymoon, though - the newly married couple remained on Fiji for another nine days to celebrate the marriage.
